Entire hike up was beautiful! The routes are pretty straightforward and I'll recommend the less taken route to avoid to crowd. There are even cable car services which I did not take. The view was great at the top, Fuji-san was also visible that day as the skies were clear. Take half a day to visit Takao-san and you'll not... More

I noticed several people complaining about the lack of natural, uncongested hiking so will share a tip here. (I lived in Tokyo for 6 years and last did this particular hike two weeks ago). If you are in search of a "proper" hike, be patient and fight your way through the crowds until you get right past the temple. When... More

Highly recomeneded place with gorgeous autumn leaves! Went on Sun very crowded. We up the hill with cable car & came down with 2 passengers chair lift - MUST try although it's a long wait but worth waiting! It's kind of thrilling experience to come down with chair lift as there's no bar in front of your sit to hold... More

This is a great place to see but it can get crowded during the holiday which makes it kind of stressful to walk around. However, it's a beautiful place to see the fall leaves.

I went to Mt. Takao on my last trip to Japan and had to come back a second time. I must warn those who want to come here on a quiet day, avoid weekends and public holidays. Thia time round I went on a Sunday. The crowd trailed all the way up the mountain. Make sure you're wearing good hiking... More

Takao san as is known locally is a short train ride (around 1 hour) from Tokyo. This place is excellent to get out of busy Tokyo city and in middle of nature. It is most famous for Trekking and there are 5 different routes available from easier ones to difficult. There is a cable car which is very popular, especially... More

Went on an extremely busy Sunday but it was to be expected considering it is peak season for seeing the leaves change in Japan. Took trail number 1 thinking it would be relatively easy going, turns out it's quite a steady steep climb in spots. The masses of people really c=slowed the pace but this helped on the way down!... we took the cable car up to some midway point and then hiked the rest of the way up, which was enough physical activity for us. but the view at the top was beautiful, we could even see mt Fuji because it was a clear day! definitely go during the weekends to avoid the crowds. wear proper shoes too, although... Went to Takaosan on a Sunday morning and it was packed! The leaves were just beginning to change. We arrived around 10am, and had to queue for about 30 minutes for the chair lift. The chair lift was a little scary in that there is no bar holding you down so if you tip over you will fall! Having said... More
