About
The Episcopal Museum of Vic (MEV), founded in 1891, houses a magnificent collection of medieval art with paintings and sculpture from the Catalan Romanesque and Gothic periods. The collections of precious metals, textiles, wrought ironwork, glass and ceramics offer a comprehensive journey through the history of liturgical and decorative art in Catalonia. This highly prized collection, including over 29,000 pieces, is exhibited in a new building on a site adjoining the cathedral, equipped with state-of-the-art exhibition facilities. Due to the exceptional interest of the museum's collections, in 2001 the museum was declared a museum of national interest by the Government of Catalonia.

Very interesting museum from pre-Roman to Middle Ages times
Apr 2021 • Solo
Museo Episcopal de Vic is the main museum in the town, located near Cathedral, in the town, Vic, in the center of Catalonia. Here you can see a lot of artworks from pre-Roman times to Middle Ages. Really a very interesting place, especially Romanesque Artworks, where you can see all paintings of some little churches. Also, here you can learn a lot about them.

Stunning Romanesque art in a distinctive local style
Sep 2019
I am a great lover of the Romanesque period in art which is why we travelled to this museum. It was well worth the journey. There is a distinctive Catalan style and many of the wooden pieces are still brightly coloured. The style is often simple, almost cartoonish and yet I found many of the images very moving. There is a lot of later medieval art as well - many good local pieces rescued from the churches in the area.
If you have a smartphone it is worth using it to hear commentary on the most important pieces (remember your earphones).

Astounding collection of medieval art
Apr 2019 • Couples
This museum was probably the best thing we saw on our entire three week trip. First we viewed an excellent collection of early ivories and then the section with all the medieval art. It is in such good condition! There are painted panels, sculptures, and even a wooden deposition group! We used the audio tour but the further you get away from the main desk the more difficult it is to get reception. The person staffing the front desk was very helpful and added to our excellent opinion of the museum.

Really impressive collection !!
Jul 2017 • Family
Although we read about museum before visiting it, we were really impressed by so interesting, various and rich collection !!
Museum has 4 floors but it's not big.
On the -1 floor there are archaeology collection amd lapidary. On the ground floor you'll find gothic and romanesque religious art. Medieval paintings and sculptures can been seen chronologically in details which is really exciting.
The first floor is dedicated to renaissance, textiles and glass. The second floor has collection of ceramics, leather and metalworking arts.
I was afraid that my son of 11 years old would become bored but he wasn't. Collection of the museum gives comprehensive view of history and content of religious art.
Undoubtedly, museum is worth a visit !! Do not miss it !!

A fantastic museum to discover
Mar 2017 • Friends
The name of the museum "episcopal" may sound too religious and boring. But what a surprise! A fantastic collection of master pieces from archeologic findings to medieval ages and even 18th century. Something you will never forget. To our knowledge, one of the best places in Europe!

wonderful gothic museum
Nov 2016 • Couples
i have been here twice. This is the perfect museum for lovers of marvelously preserved gothic art. Every time I go (even though the permanent collection doesn't change super frequently as far as I can tell), I see something new. It is really wondrous and a haven for the catalonian gothic art lover.

Impressive museum, not to be missed
Oct 2016 • Friends
well situated near the Cathedral, this majestic modern museum offers a very welcoming light and spacious hall with grand staircase and lifts to take you 4 floors of exhibitions in a most elegant architecture. The museum is well known mainly for its Romanesque and Gothic Catalan religious art. We only had an hour there before it closed at 2pm on a Sunday,we were the only visitors in the whole building and we decided to concentrate on this collection . Catalan Medieval paintings and wooden sculptures give such pleasure and delight for their naive and yet so beautifully executed impressions of religious symbolism and this museum in this small town offers quality works in a wonderful setting . not to be missed .

Great little Museum

Filled with lots of interesting local information and exhibits. Beautifully arranged over four floors. Antique glass ephemera, lots of church related ironwork and priest's / bishop's robes. Easy to spend 2 or three hours here.
