The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda
Ochanomizu boasts its academic foundations starting with Yushima Seido, the birthplace of modern day Japanese education. The area has kept its college town feel with several university campuses. If you head towards Jinbocho, you'll find musical instrument and sports equipment shops, and an area of used bookstores for students and anyone interested in literature and the arts. Akihabara is well-known for its computer and electronic goods stores, and is now hugely popular as the must-visit mecca for people interested in anime and games. Kanda is an office district where you can find loads of reasonably priced izakayas popular with professionals who stop to eat and drink before making their way home.

Nice electronic shopping area, they carry a wide selection of brands, from low to high end. They also have anime-related merchandise such as figures, costumes, make up, etc. Many local coffee shops and restaurants behind the main street.

This area is a trip. Tons of Anime, stores selling toys, and electronics, some weirder fetish stuff like packets of pretty girl pictures, and maid restaurants. The streets are lively and vibrant. You can go to some enormous video arcade game stores. 6 or 7 stories high packed with vintage to some crazy cutting-edge games that will blow your mind. A fun place. Went twice. Wish I would have gone at night.

It’s a very busy but beautiful street, i visited a few manga stores and i think there were a lot of them, so if you are a manga/anime lover, it’s a must visit place.
A lot of maid cafes, I did not visit any of them but if you’re interested this is definitely a place where you can find many of them.

This area is fun, fun, fun. Everyone must come here and just walk around and experience some unique Japanese culture. We enjoyed every minute of our time here. The place is unique and can feel like you are in a theme park. Make sure you walk into the shops and check out the products.

The must visit part of Tokyo. Here you are like in a cartoon :) everything is bright and funny, there are a lot of ads and sounds. You can buy some anime staff (costumes, dolls, posters and etc). On weekends here you can meet cosplayers.

Great place, if you are into Anime, manga and soft Hentai. I was there with my friend for 2 days and it was fantastic! 5/5! Some stuff that need to be noted tho, especially if you have young family members then don’t go to deep into the stores cuz it was quickly becoming sexual. First of I was met with very soft porn that I thought nothing about, but when I went deeper and deeper into the stores you could start to see the more ”dark side”. Other than that really great for families!

Akihabara is already fun as a quarter, just walking around. If you make sure to arrive in the afternoon, you will experience the sun going down and the lights coming on. At the same time, the temperature will drop a little, and you can enjoy an evening of entertainment on and off the streets.

In July 2022, I went to Akihabara to look at PC parts.
Located between Tokyo and Ueno, Akihabara is a town where electronics stores flourish and where so-called "otaku" (geeks) who love computers gather.
Recently, with the popularity of "Evangelion" and "AKB48", it has become a tourist destination where otaku culture such as anime and idols spread, and it is also known overseas by the abbreviation AKIBA, attracting many foreign tourists.
On the way to the store, there were queues in front of some stores. It was probably an anime event or a goods sale. The queues included not only Japanese but also many foreign tourists, indicating that Japanese culture is loved beyond the seas.
PC stores in Akihabara sell not only common PCs for general consumers, but also individual parts for home-built PCs. Many of the stores also sell used products called "junk," and many visitors to Akihabara come here for this purpose. Junk is a good way to get high quality products at a reasonable price.
I visited several new PC parts stores that day, and the staff at all of them were kind enough to explain and compare products.
Akihabara is not only home to PCs and anime, but also to many popular restaurants. On this day, I had lunch at a popular ramen shop, "Menya Musashi Iwatora". The two large pieces of pork chashu pork and the thick back-oil soup are very tasty, so please stop by if you visit Akihabara.

Akihabara is known as the world leading electric town and home to Otaku culture. It’s the best place to witness the underground culture of Japan and shop high-tech gadgets - from electronics shops to maid cafés. It was colouful and fun seeing it all. Great experience.

I never get to explore Akihabara that much due to the limited schedule of the subway therefore I get to only see Akihabara for few hours. Akihabara is well known for its anime shops, claw crane machines, gadget shops, and even adult shops!
Akihabara is known for being the electronic district of Tokyo! It's indeed another district with endless discovery! During my visit to Akihabara, I get to visit some gadget shops that offer a fortress of computer products, gaming consoles, and game cartridges, anime shops that sell action figure items, mangas, and souvenirs. I even stepped into one of the adult shops accidentally without knowing that it's an adult shop lol

Where can I buy Tamiya 1/16 RC tanks in Akihabara area?

I would suggest Yellow Submarine, as they had a heap of items like this when we went last time. If you go into Radio Kaikan, there is a store in there. There are also multiple levels where you may find it amongst other RC toys in the other stores.

BTW, if Akihabara is your destination, there is an airport bus that goes to Akihabara Station, but the last bus leaves around 6 PM, if that works for you, otherwise get the bus to Tokyo Station and the subway or taxi to Akihabara.
Do you remember the name of the ramen spot?

Hi camper555, I dont know the name of the ramen spot sorry, but it is just under the JR line track that crosses the main road. You may want to view google map (3D image) with akihabara train station as the starting point.

My son is going to Akihabara for his Make a Wish Trip in June. He loves Pokemon and battle related games for PS4 and XBox. Can you name a handful of stores there that would be the best to find those items and at the best prices? I think he may be overwhelmed just going store to store and buy things before he finds the best deals. I appreciate your advice! Thanks!

One more thing to add. He might want to take some screenshots of some games he is looking for. The staff there was very friendly and helpful with me, but due to the language barrier it helped when I showed pictures.

Would you recommend going here in the day or at night? It would be cool to see all of the lights at night but will the shops be open at night time?
Been there done that... around the world

Both but if you have to choose go at night, stores are usually open until late.
