I`m not sure if this is meant to be a funfair or a serious religious place

As you can guess from the title of this review I am quite confused about this place. It is about a 10 - 15 minutes walk away from the Akihabara station. Everybody who has been at... read more

This temple was very interesting to walk through. But what was fascinating were the Japanese teenagers that dress up to go to this temple. It also was at the end of a rather touristy, but still very interesting street, where you can taste all sort of Japanese delicacies, as well as traditional Japanese food (quite pricey, but then Tokyo is... Very beautiful view. It's the oldest shrine , 730, Guardian of Edo. Near Akihabara station. Just 10 minutes walking from station. Worth.

Very restful and quiet place after a long day exploring Akihabara (I visited at 5 pm). If you are coming from Akihabara, you may encounter a steep set of stone stairs leading up to the temple. The effort to climb is well worth it as you take the first glimpse of the temple ground. If you are coming from Ochanomizu... More

This is very popular shrine where japanese come to wish for things. Just 5 minutes walking from Akiba. Lots of souvenir shops but not much more.

This is a small temple tucked in a quiet side street. However there are plenty of Japanese coming in with a lot of wishes and petitions as this is a sacred spot for the Japanese.

The Gates are amazing to see, as are the shrines, but the rows of tiny shopping stalls are crazy crowded. And remember, any of the stall food you must eat right there, you are not allowed to stroll through the crowds with ice cream cones, and the like.

Staying in Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda

Neighbourhood Profile
Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda
Ochanomizu boasts its academic foundations starting with Yushima Seido, the birthplace of modern day Japanese education. The area has kept its college town feel with several university campuses. If you head towards Jinbocho, you'll find musical instrument and sports equipment shops, and an area of used bookstores for students and anyone interested in literature and the arts. Akihabara is well-known for its computer and electronic goods stores, and is now hugely popular as the must-visit mecca for people interested in anime and games. Kanda is an office district where you can find loads of reasonably priced izakayas popular with professionals who stop to eat and drink before making their way home.
