Mejiro park was OK am for a stroll through walkways surrounded by trees, but you don't walk through the woods, there wasn't much obvious wildlife apart from a lot of other people escaping the city heat.

Just 200 yen to get in - Came here the last weekend of November. It was very small but absolutely gorgeous!! There's a bus a short walk away near Mejiro Station (#61 bound for Shinjuku West Exit) to Hotel Chinzanso which is also lit up at night (bigger and free but not as amazing).

When I first heard of Mejiro Garden I had imagined it would have been much larger. However it had a serene atmosphere and the pond with waterfall offers a soothing ambience in the middle of Ikebukuro. It really is tucked away between regular houses, but if the gates are open feel free to walk in. There's no charge for walking... More

We found this place by accident taking a stroll from Mejiro to Ikebukuro to burn off lunch. Mejiro Tei-En is a garden run by the government of Toshima-ku, a part of metropolitan Tokyo. The garden is free (we checked on the local government web site - we visited on a national holiday but it's free every day). The path around... More

Our host from Family Inn Saiko recommended us this little garden because it is light with colourfull lights at night. We went there and it was really interesting, there were only a few other people, entrance fee was small. Wery good place for night stroll, great for night photography and cool/unique experience.

Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighbourhood Profile
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.
