This place is great if you want really authentic, unique souvenirs from local artisans rather than the stuff in tourist shops. The value seemed really excellent as well, depending on what you're looking for. There was a couple of really excellent coffee shops too. Would...More

This design "tunnel" below the Yamanote line is a very nice place to stroll around. There are lots of different shops, some cafés and coffee stands. A really calm place to enjoy the silence in the middle of Tokyo.

A smallish collection of shops/workspaces for artists to sell their wares. I found the Tenegui shop to be of excellent quality and spent a fair amount of money here. Better quality Tenegui for the same price as you would pay in a department store (1500...More

Took a little while to find it; went away disappointed. Perhaps small artisan shops were rare in Tokyo; there were some interesting shops but really nothing truly special.

This a very cool space with many small artisan shops - for window shopping or purchasing well made pieces. 2k540 Under the Yamanote Line train tracks between - Akihabara/Okachimachi. Open 11-19. Closed Wed.

Great for any day, but especially a rainy one, this lane isa perfect collection of artisanal craft and clothing. It is the place to rest and relax while being surrounded by beautiful work from leather to ceramics to wood.

Idea for a rainy day? Explore the Aki-Oka gallery made underneath the rail tracks, between Okachimachi and Akihabara JR station... Beside keeping you dry, the gallery is the home of 2 dozen craft stores, selling anything from wooden smartphone case to yuzu wine and origami...More

Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old
Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa.
Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit
a variety of different museums and galleries. At
Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the
grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed
alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at
the end of the year, when many people go on shopping
