This beach is really cool at many times of the year. In summer it's a good place to go close to bilbao if you manage to park (when coming by car arrive before 11 am or after 14h30-15h to avoid peak time). You'll always find a spot on the beach as its never overcrowded. Many surfers, nudists but also families.... More

I've seen many many beaches in the world and Sopelana surely has a place as well , at least for the view (if you like me not belong to the surfers) , but the temperature or better the lack of it is basically a challenge ......OK, it was winter , but speaking with some locals confirmed , even in the... If you are in Bilbao this is a beach to go there. From the central is like 30 mins with metro to Larrabasterra station. From the station have to walk another 30 mins to get there. The beach is great and clean, the ocean is beautiful, waves are deadly. I went to surfing there, with surf school Gorka Yarritu and... More

Visited with friends on a day out from Bilbao in July 2015. Parked nearby and went down the steps, to the beach. It is beautiful. Not sure about access with wheelchair. If carrying a pushchair, make sure you can cope with the steep steps and weight. It is aparently, a nudist beach, but we were wearing swimming costumes and lots... More

Nice, calm beach at Sopela, 20min walk from the city or 5 min bus ride. In july we were amazed by the low frequentation of the beach - it was (almost) empty all week. Some good waves.

My friend who was staying in Bilbao not at the first time recommended me this place because you don't need more than few hours to look at the best in the town Bilbao, so but if you still here, you should use possibility to come to the Sopelana etc, the places that not so closed but easy to find. The... More

This is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever had the pleasure to visit - as is the one next door to it too. A visit to these beaches is a MUST

We camped near by and heard the roar of the waves all night - we thought it was a motorway! The following morning we were drawn by that sound to find its source. The beach is beautiful wide, open with those loud thunderous breakers relentlessly falling on the beach making it a haven for surfers.

Ok the "savage" beach (La Salvaje) is "savage" but quite banal, just walk a few seconds on the right and you will have an amazing view. Parking is not free in the summer, what a rip off!

What was one of my favourite beaches until it was completely spoiled in recent years by the aforementioned overzealous life guards (who not only limit swimmers) but throw body boarders out for not wearing flippers!?!? (-Never used them in 40 years body boarding!) The irony is that the under current pulls you out in the narrow swimming zone, whilst it’s... More
