In its spectacular setting overlooking the Mesara Plan visitors can absorb the scale and splendour our of a Minoan palace without the need of a paint job! It is actually far easier to appreciate the age of the excavated buildings here (4000 years) than it...More

A fantastic, low tourist level authentic place to visit that's off the beaten track. A real nice place with some great history and information provided on the numerous boards dotted around the site. It's an €8 entrance fee so more expensive than most sites but...More

Phaistos is a Minoan palace site, once as important as Knossos, it has been very sympathetically excavated over the past 50 or so years, but has bit had any of the appalling reconstrauctions and interpretation as at Knossos, The information boards are factual and explain...More

I am a history buff so I love ruins but I do wish there was more information in each section of the ruins because it does leave you scratching your head a bit. There are information boards explaining what was found in an area, but...More

This place is beautiful; the setting is dramatic, with breathtaking views all around. The Palace itself is almost as large as Knossos and follows a similar plan. It's easy to navigate around by yourself with plenty of information boards, so go on your own and...More

Great setting, great views...it should make for a great visit. But it's impossible for the layman to interpret the ruins, and the authorities that run the site make zero effort to do this. The bored staff are only interested in selling you tickets, and none...More

Nice archological site with a nice view of the valley and surrounding mountains. Contrary to what the guide mentioned there are pannels explaining the history of each location. To maybe convince your kids: my daughter catched a lot of new Pokemons here...

When someone visits south Crete, he should definately pay a visit in Faistos. Faistos was the second important city, after Knossos, during the second millennium bc. It is advisable to visit the place with a guide in order to get the most of it.

Hire a car but be ready for some exciting cretan driving and definitely buy the double ticket and go to Agia Triada as well. Deserted most of the time and stunning.
