About
Podere La Chiesa is a winery located among the Pisan hills, 30km south-east of Pisa along the road to Volterra. It is on the top of an upland (125 meters a.s.l.) just before the little village of Casanova. Thanks to the great passion and skills of Maurizio Iannantuono and Palma Tonacci, Podere La Chiesa produces high quality wines organic and mostly from Sangiovese grape that is the most important autochthonous character of the territory. The new Winery is a masterpiece of modern architecture, visitors, who love wine are welcome in a warm and cozy setting, immersed in the wonderful Tuscan countryside. The cellar hosts art presentations as well as cultural and musical events on a yearly basis. Our wine is the outcome of our hard team work, deep knowledge of Tuscan nature, local culture and passion. Our Wine is an emotion that our guests treasure forever in their heart after every visit.

Lovely wine tour
Jul 2020 • Couples
Our tour started outside with an explanation of the wines. The tour then continued inside with a tour through the beautiful building including the wine cellar, production hall and art gallery. The building is very impressive and the atmosphere is very unique. We learned a lot about the production process during the tour, which was great!
For the wine tasting, we were offered 6 different very good wines (1 white, 1 rose, 4, red) and delicious cold cuts. The table was lovely set and Palma and Maurizio gave us all the privacy we needed during our wine tasting. We were able to enjoy the wine and the food just with the two of us, which was very much appreciated. We were allowed to stay as long as we wanted and in fact, instead of the designated time of 2 hours, the tour took 3 hours. We made use of their shipping possibility and Palma even gave us one bottle of the white wine as a gift. Very sweet! We felt very welcomed and would definitely do the tasting again and highly recommend stopping by.

Perfect first winery visit in Tuscany
Jul 2020 • Friends
Very nice wine tasting with a knowledgable host, and delicious meats, cheeses and food to go along side it. All set in an architecturally interesting building on gorgeous vineyards. Some interesting artwork upstairs showcasing local talents.

Grape clusters, not Swiss Cheese!
Dec 2019 • Couples
We were lodged at the HGVC property ½k down the road. The architecture of the building intrigued us (we called it the Swiss Cheese winery!) and had to stop in.

Our hosts could not have been more gracious! We did a tasting and pairing. Unlike in the US where you get ½ oz to taste, these were full pours. And they left the bottle if you wanted more! Food was well presented, abundant and tasty!

This winery has rotating artists’ work on exhibit too (and for sale if the spirit moves you!). We visited in December, I imagine in Warner weather with the doors open to the vineyard this is veyond spectacular!

What a great winery. It was a winery experience not just a tasting. Thanks so much for fabulous wine and food and conversation. We talked with the owners and can feel their passion for wine and their product. Truly wonderful. Highly recommended.

Warm hospitality. A beautiful setting - bellissimo! And incredibly delicious wine. Palma and Mauricio are fantastic hosts and we were delighted to visit.

We are fans of going out of the way to find big experiences in small packages. Podere La Chiesa delivers.

Sensational visit
Sep 2019 • Friends
We wanted to visit a few local Tuscan wineries. We were told by our hotel concierge we would need to book, to allow 3hrs and that our booking would include lunch. This was not quite what we had in mind ... thinking we could just rock up to a few wineries on the same day. We went ahead and made the booking at La Chiesa (kee-ess-uh) When we arrived at this modern winery that was styled to show bunches of grapes, it was so simply beautiful. First we had an informative tour of the production area by Mauriciano ... his passion is his organic wines and he explained that originally all the land in this valley was owned by the Catholic church and that is where their winery name derived from. After our tour we had a relaxing 4 course lunch prepared and served by Parma ... they took turns in explaining the wines with each course. The food was delicious and the wines were excellent. We struggled to leave by 5pm. For a while we were the only ones in their restaurant.. We felt very special, they were so lovely and it was such a memorable day. Definitely worth a visit. Bellisimo!

If I could give it 6 stars, I would
Oct 2019 • Couples
Arriving on the doorstep on a Sunday at 11am, we were the first customers of the day and welcomed in and offered a tour, wine tasting and a lunch (€25 including antpasti or €35 including "light" lunch).
Our host showed us around the winery and explained the fermentation process. We checked out the art gallery and learnt a bit about the architecture.
Wine tasting was done at our own private table overlooking the vineyards. Generous serves were poured (closer to a full glass) and we tried 6 different wines.
Whilst we tasted our wine, 4 courses of food was progressively brought out to accompany it. Bruschetta, pasta, small goods and cheese and dessert.
Collectively, there were only about 12 of us there for lunch and it was a pleasantly relaxed and semi-casual approach.
Before we knew it, 4 hours had past!
Great hosts, beautiful fresh produce, lovely setting and pretty amazing value for money!
A must do, but probably book, don't rush and have a designated driver!

This was our second visit to the winery. Beautiful setting, stunning building, incredible wine.
We did the tour and wine tasting with a “light lunch” at 3:00 pm which consisted of two types of bruschetta, white lasagna, meat and cheese plate and finished with apple strudel.

Unique and fun winery
Sep 2019
Podere La Chiesa is a unique small winery located in Terriccola, about 45 minutes from Pisa, Italy. While many wineries offer tastings, and some offer tours, La Chiesa offers the combination of tasting, a tour and art work.
The production facility is nestled in the rolling Tuscan hills amongst the vineyards. The building is visible from the road and very different from the classic Tuscan stone buildings. It is very modern and from a distance looks like a large concrete building with holes similar to swiss cheese. As you get closer, you realize it is representative of grapes. The architectural design is so well thought through and executed that you can see the vineyards from each of the circular cut-outs when inside the two story (high ceiling) structure.
We drove to it without any reservation around midday (when a lot of places start to close for the afternoon break). We were the only people there at the moment. We met Maurizio Iannantuono, the ‘wizard’ of their wines, as he was going out to check on the grapes. They were very close to being ready for harvesting. Inside we were met by Palma Tonacci, who along with Maurizio, are the proprietors. We asked if they were offering tastings, tours and possibly related to lunch or dinner. She said we could have all of that whenever we would like. So, we decided to do the combo with lunch (about 35 Euro per person).
Palma proceeded to give us a tour including background on their winery (it was built on property that was originally owned by the Catholic church out of Florence), the different types of wines they produce (one white and five reds), their process, etc. As you can see in the accompanying pictures, the facility is very cool with a ‘floating’ gallery on the second floor around the aging barrels, a gallery that looks over the stainless steel storage vats on onside and out the front at the flowing hills of vineyards.
The tasting included their white Punto di Vista (100% vermentino), and four reds: the Le Redole di Casanova (80% sangiovese, 20% canalolo), theTerre di Casanova (100% sangiovese), the Sabiniano di Casanova (80% sagiovese, 25% cab. Sauvignon, 15% merlot), the Opera in Rosso (100% sangiovese), and Opera in Nero (100% merlot). The last 3 reds are aged in French oak barrels while the others are aged in stainless steel tanks.
Along with the tasting, Palma gave us more detail on each wine and a very nice accompaniment of food including a delicious vegetable lasagna.
The entire experience was delightful and Palma made us feel so welcome.
