Worth a quick visit

It's worth a quick visit to this museum, it's free and has some interesting artefacts. Lots of the information is in English.

Museum composed by collecting the finds of a few but precious archaeological sites
Feb 2019 • Friends
This small but well-kept museum is a good example of an exhibition initially drawn from a single archaeological site.
The site is that of Ortaglia, a few Kms from Peccioli. In this place a deep well was excavated, then emptied, in which the fragments of a nearby building (a temple or a sanctuary: the wooden model is in one of the rooms) collapsed in the 4th century BC, had been thrown. Votive objects are part of these findings; but also - for example - numerous, cumbersome jars, broken into many pieces and today patiently recomposed.
Subsequently, these Etruscan finds were flanked by finds from the Roman and early Middle Ages, coming from the Ghizzano site; including the tomb of a girl of about 20, who died around the middle of the fourteenth century.
The museum tour was made pleasant by the competent and complete guided tour (free).
As a whole, this museum recalls the importance of the Peccioli area, located on the main transit route between the two powerful Etruscan cities of Pisa and Volterra, and starting from the first centuries of the Christian era functioning as one of the road belts that from the Apennines (and from the Alps) went to Rome.

Interesting and worthwhile

The Etruscan Empire was centered here, and the archeological finds are fascinating. Try to get a tour so that you get a good perspective. A surprisingly interesting museum.
