We had the place to ourselves as we had organised a private tour of the area west of Naples around Bacoli / Misenum that day. There was a bit of organising as a lady has to come and open it up especially for a visit....More

We wanted to see it, two weeks before coming we wrote an e-mail to the person in charge of it - no reaction, no response. We could not say exactly the time of our coming there before, so when we were then on the requested...More

Don't skip this site. It won't take long to tour, but the experience walking into an ancient former underground water reservoir is extraordinary. It's a little tricky to find, but press on and leave a few euros as a donation.

Beautiful place to visit. A place that supplied water to the ancient fleet in bygone days. Children might not like the place but people interested in history will love it. Recommended. Even the Curator of the British museum has vivited this place.

Piscina Mirabilis is simply amazing. A super spot on Roman architecture. Do not miss it during a trip in the area.

This enormous Roman cistern is astonishing. It felt almost as grand as a cathedral. And we loved that you just phone someone down the street and they come up and let you in. I can be pretty sure there aren't many other places in the...More

The piscine mirabilis featured in alexander Armstrong's documentary the other day. It is a Roman water cistern of an amazing size. If you have visited the cistern in Istanbul you will know what to expect. This one lacks the lights and the music, but is...More

We were lucky to have arrangements made to have this 2000 year old engineering marvel opened for us. A steep descent from ground level into this cistern which collected water from an aqueduct which ran 60 km from Avelino. The water was for the fleet....More

Visit by appointment and the local guide will show you round this huge building. Advanced technology the water was brought by an aqueduct over 100 kilometres. It was the water supply for the Roman navy based at Miseno.
