Personally I am a fan of older buildings like Suso even if they are neglected. To reach this one, you have to first visit Yuso at the foothills and then take an official bus up the hill. It sounds like a pain but it is worth it.

Only 25 people per half hour are allowed to enter this sight to ensure its preservation. The tickets must be bought at the tourist office in San Millan de la Corolla and you ascend by bus for a 20 minute guided tour, in Castellano. The four different stages of the building from cave to later additions are fascinating to see... More

This is the place to begin a visit to San Millan. The shuttle bus is included, as is the guide. Learn about the hermit and the religious order and pilgrimage tradition that followed him, and the first written examples of Spanish languages

We spent 18 days in Northern Spain and the visit to the Suso Monastery was a highlight. The monasteries of San Millán de Suso and San Millán de Yuso are two monasteries located in La Rioja, Spain. They have been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Suso is 6th Century Romaneque church and was where the Spanish language was... More

Well, perhaps beautiful is not the worth, more charming, atmospheric. Small, seen in 30 minutes. Walk down through the woods afterwards instead of taking the bus.

As with all monasteries on or near the Camino, the Suso monastery is worth a visit. It's one of two monasteries that together make a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Park near the town and buy an admission ticket, which gives you a bus ride up to Suso. The tour is in Spanish, but you can get an English pamphlet to... More

Near to Yuso Monastery. Did not have time to give it, it's proper respect. It was on the way to a Bodegas.

Loved our visit to both monasteries. Make sure you get your ticket for Suso as access is limited by bus access.. Absolutely fascinating view of the evolution of sixth century monastery into large militaristic benedicting monastery in the valley. Avail of an english language tour is you can

Firstly the bus was late , so we had to wait in the rain . The visit was completely shed , shoddy and rush , the guide was grumpy and clearly does not enjoy her job .overall , it was very disappointing.

This is one of two Monasteries in the same area. Suso and Yuso. I am not sure if they have English tours but the one we were put with was Spanish only. The guide at Suso tried to tell us some of the highlights in English, but it was limited. In Yuso, the tour was only in Spanish. We tried... More
