Su Nuraxi is a settlement consisting of a seventeenth century BCE Nuraghe, a bastion of four corner towers plus a central one, and a village inhabited from the thirteenth to the sixth century BCE, developed around the Nuraghe. They are considered by scholars the most impressive expression of the Nuragic civilization and were included in the UNESCO list of World... More

Well worth a visit to this special site. An hours drive from Cagliari on easy roads. The guides are very informative speaking Italian, French an English. Tour lasts for 40 minutes. The are steep steps and narrow tunnels to negotiate, but well worth it. The site dating to the Bronze Age gives a real feel of how they lived

Given that the culture here is as old as the Egyptian pyramids, the Nuraghi civilisation is pretty impressive in the extent across Sardinia and how long its edifices have lasted. This example is a well-preserved more recent example (the central tower is the oldest, the surrounding lobe towers added later) Well worth taking the time to visit

This is said to be the best Nuragic site and it deserves it's fame. It was founded in 1700 BC and abandoned in 600 BC. The nuraghe with 4 corner towers is very high and one can walk up to the top of it (some climbing of steep stairs is involved and through some narrow tunnels). From the top you... More

Very interesting historical site. There is a road from the village (Barumini) faces after (follow the signs) The entrance cost 10 euros per person. You can enter only by guided tours of local guides. We joined a tour in English. Tickets include two sites in the village (museum and visitors center)

Not usually our type of tour but we were glad that we had made the effort. The guided tours take place regularly during the day and in a number of different languages, all for a modest entrance fee. The guide we had was very knowledgeable. As it was the end of the season the site was relatively quiet and not... More

After learning about the Nuraghic civilization at the archeological museum in Cagliari, we were very keen to see this site--a UNESCO world heritage site preserving the most complete and largest of the over 7000 nuraghes around Sardinia. This society is very unique to Sardinia (I don't believe it existed elsewhere). This Iron Age society built these huge stone towers with... More

The ruins here are magnificent and the tour was great. I took the tour in Italian and got about 50% of the points (my Italian is awful). They offer tours in English, I recommend waiting for those if your Italian is poor. You get to climb over the top and down into the keep. This is a hard climb up... More

The nuraghic sites are unique to Sardinia. I have never visited somewhere that was inhabited in 1500BC. And there is so much still there to see and to walk into. A real highlight to our visit to Sardinia.
