once there was a colonial power that had to transport naval boats up the Mekong. unfortunately there are some strong and high rapids here. so they built a railway accross two islands to transport the vessels upriver... the bridge between the two islands is a remnant of this railway line, as is the old locomotive standing in Don Khong and the leftover of the harbour on Don Det.

Tourists and locals cross that bridge with the (motor-)bikes.
Nothing special about that bridge and not worth a visit if you don't have the plan to cross from Don Det to Don Khon.

So the Frenchies built a bridge that connects two islands. Much whoa!
This "landmark" isn't such. It should not be included in trip advisor.

I hired bike for the day and set off from Don Det. From one end to the other with stops inbetween. Came across the bridge in my travels. Nice place to stop, have a cold beer and take some photos. Crossed over and carried on to the falls. No body there trying to scam me so maybe he's got the message.

Bridge between the island of don det and don khong. They charge a fee if you want to pass it. But during our stay nobody was there to collect the money :)

No idea why this bridge is listed on Tripadvisor. There is nothing special about it.

Scam! If you want to cross the bridge from Don Det to Don Khon there are big stop signs and a guy that wants you to pay 35.000 kip to enter the island. In fact you do not have to pay to cross the bridge. He just tries to sell you a ticket for the waterfalls. But tickets for the waterfall are naturally sold at the waterfalls themselves. Just tell him you do not want to go to the waterfalls. Despite the (homemade) signs, this man has no authority to stop tourists. Everyone can cross the bridge for free.

He can get very aggressive though. Calling us liars and told us we were not allowed to use the road. Just wave and ignore him.

Unless you are going to the waterfalls on the north west of the island, dont pay ! They want you to pay for the bridge but its only for the waterfalls. So be carefull. If you go there its ok pay and you'll have your tickets for waterfalls but if not just refuse even if they insist.

The old bridge is the best place for enjoying the sunset. You can sit there easily, there is not too much traffic and the view is really beautiful. Restaurants and shops are nearby.

Bridge from Don Det to Don Khone. Pretty old bridge nothing spectacular but a good place for a few photo opportunities. Would not recommend driving across drunk late at night. No barriers. It is a bridge full stop.

This is a just a bridge not a tourist attraction. People use to cross Mekong river to the other island. If you are here can go for a walk .
