The amber fort itself is amazing but I was heartbroken to see elephants being ridden. Tons of tourists riding elephants from the bottom to the top whilst the handlers were kicking the elephants in the head and hitting them hard with wooden poles. So sad to see. Other than this the fort itself was very beautiful and worth a visit.... More

When you look at this fort / palace from the Rd it doesn't look big but once you've braved the steps and climbed up it it and gone though the sun gate, it's huge. Plan on a good couple of hours exploring the nooks and cranny's, up and down the staircases finding new places. And make sure you take the... More

The Amber or Amer Fort is quite extraordinary - the extravagant opulence of the past is tangible. You need a guide - hopefully not just for the bald history of rulers and buildings but also an insight into the lives of people who were there in the past. There are elephants to take you up to the fort - however,... More

The fort itself is beautiful and has an amazing view across the hills. The history is rich and I would recommend having a tour/audio guide. The only reason I've given it 3 stars instead of 5 is because of the elephant ride which unfortunately many tourists still support. Unfortunately our tour company had pre-paid for it (so we inadvertently supported... More

This is a world class fort that is breathtaking from the outside. I found the best places for photographs were from the roadside looking across the water to get the reflection, and also the gardens as soon as your enter the complex from the road. The inside of the fort is not quite as spectacular as the outside but still... More

Read the tourist hype about the Amber Fort and you would think the only way you can get up to it is by riding an elephant. That might seem like a fun way to get up but believe me those elephants are not treated well, so get walking (about 10 minutes) or take a guided trip up by vehicle. Check... More

This is really worth a visit in the historic trading city of Jaipur. The fort is large and impressive. The defensive walls that cover the surrounding hills are equally impressive. Take a local guide as there is a lot to understand.

Wherever you are in Jaipur you can see this imposing monument atop the hills. It's very grand and the battlements look very much like the Great Wall of China the way they follow the hills. Inside the fort is in need of a great deal of restoration (which has begun) but this doesn't detract from your visit and the views... More

Jaipur is a city of Forts. The whole city is almost encircled or filled with so many forts. Of all, Amber or Amer as commonly referred is the most beautiful one. It almost tells you how grand the lives of the Kings here were. The view from the fort is also amazing. You shall be able to view the Jaigarh... More

Dont premark in your mind a fort will be having walls and good construction. You have to change your mind when visiting Amber. First typical experience will be elephant ride - a must - dont visit by car. Elephant ride will give u spectacular views of the fort and a unforgettable joy. Then Sheesh Mahal will hold your breath for... More
