We played yesterday in a group of seven.
The course is stunning but the greens were absolutely terrible, so slow and not in good order, shame as it really ruined the experience.
One of the caddies had a terrible cold and in these COVID times should not have been working and handling clubs for our clients, they were very unhappy about that.
We came in from Singapore and it was really slow entering via the ferry.
Really stupid system on arrival where they take your passport while you wait in the Emerald lounge. This is not the fault of the golf course but kinds of affects the timings and the experience.

We are a golfer couple and we did the right decision to spend our weekend getaway at Ria Bintan Golf Club. Superb Ocean course!! We even repeated Hole 8 and Hole 9 of Ocean course two days in a row! simply fantastic view for a fun-tastic golf experience. Highly recommended Golf Course in Indonesia!

Course is interesting, challenging and well maintained. Staff is very helpful and courteous. Food is good and rooms are comfortable. Be advised there is not much else to do here besides golf — no pool, beach, etc — but the golf itself is top notch.

Played here mid week so enjoyed billionaires golf experience. The course is very pretty, particularly the ocean side holes. Great design.
Greens were very slow which detracted from the enjoyment somewhat.
But most annoying was the pricing of drinks, especially and club house where we were charged IDR80k for a small glass of draft beer. Come on. You're also, on an unlimited golf package, only given one complimentary bottle of water per day (not round). This kind of stuff detracts from the overall experience.

This is a fantastic golf course! It has perfect fairways and the greens are smooth and quick. There are also many wonderful views especially around the ocean.

We were at the finale of the weekend long mini golf tournament amongst the eight of us. Given that we had spent the previous two days on the neighbouring Batam Island, we thought it was befitting to cap it all off with a good golf course.
Gary Player didn't disappoint us, he designed an interesting course, meandering through a tropical rain forest and awarded us with superb ocean view holes, whilst navigating the prerequisite 18 out of 27 holes.
Our travel agent had organized a private charter speedboat for us for the day. Good thing that he did, twice we were held back to let the year end mini typhoon to pass through. It took us nearly an hour from the jetty to get to the golf course, what with the rain, we ended up spending the whole day at the golf resort. But it was certainly worth it.
Since it was a Monday and year end raining season, we were practically the only two flite of golfers playing. Everybody, from the clubhouse staff to the caddies gave us their full attention, and we savored every minute of it. Kudos to the caddies, they persevered on in the rain, ensuring giving us the right club and making sure the grip is as dry as possible.
Green fees and related expenses were not cheap, but it wasn't steep either. The tee boxes were luxuriously kept, the fairways were maintained beautifully, not a single bare patch although there were some soggy patches it was not enough to spoil the flow. The greens were lovingly manicured albeit it was a tad too slow on the stimpmeter.
Hole No 8 Ocean Blue stood out for me. A drive to leave 150 meters dog leg left is vital to play this hole. There is a drop of about 30 meters, for the green is right at the edge of the cliff. Reminiscent of Pebble Beach, the wind was howling directly in your face, with some lateral rain thrown in for good measure on that day. Club selection is critical to attack the pin on the green.
The rocky outcrop Par 3 Hole 9 is the signature hole. Just hold your nerves, get a par there, you're well on your way to tackle the mature tropical rainforest holes next. The fairways seems wide, so its tempting to force your drives. Mr Player is clever, his speciality, the bunkers are strategically placed, either at landing areas or protecting the greens.
It was satisfying to come away from the course close to or just under your handicap. Superb outing, well recommended.

Highly rated golf course on Bintan Island. Expensive but we thought it should be worth the investment. Played as a couple, father and son, behind us a 4 ball. Amazingly the 4 ball were playing very loud music on their buggies which everyone on the holes around could hear. First time in my life this happened.
We complained to our caddy. Nothing we can do she said. They are members here. They do what they like. We complained to the Marshall. He could do nothing. They are members.
After the round we complained to “customer relations”. Oh yeah we know who they are. But hey they are members.
Beautiful setting. Great course. But no management control and no respect for the wonderful environment. Shame.

We bought a golf /stay package and it was not cheap! I had been wanting to play Ria Bintan due to its reputation so this trip was my birthday present. We had an amazing time and all the staff including the caddies were wonderful BUT BUT BUT the Greens and Fairways were in shocking condition. What I heard about this being the 'premier' golf course in our region is simply not true! By the way the spa was great but the food below average. Don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon which is a pity as I had expected this to be somewhere I'd want to keep coming back to....

I travelled over Bintan for the day to play this beautiful course.Great view from clubhouse and puts you in the mood for a game. I was a bit rushed to the tee so no warm up. My caddy was excellent. The fairways were good , slightly patchy. Tees were excellent. The greens are struggling. They are very slow, sandy and patchy. I was promised playing partners but has none but caught the group in front and played with them. This is a challenging course in a number of ways. It’s hot, very hot, plenty of water required. If you go into the trees you will need plenty of balls. Can be brought on four tee. if you want a course where only you are heard and to get lost in your own thoughts and the scenery this is the place. I would travel there again but I will wait till the greens are better.Staff are wonderfully welcoming and very friendly. My wife had a. Facial at the spa and rated it highly.

What is the usual caddy fee for a round of golf and do you pay in Indonesian money?
Written 24 January 2020
Caddy fee is included in the golf fees. It is customary for the caddies to receive tips for a good job well done - especially reading/confirming the line for putts, for enduring our insistence in playing through the odd squalls of rain and searching for lost balls when a draw became a hook.
Yes I pay using Indonesian currency, usually 150,000-200,000 Rupiah.
