The building itself is full of history, it's been a 16th century inn, a temperance house (bar without alcohol) and a butchers. Also the small entrance belies the internal capacity which offers a labarynth of nooks and crannies each full of historical local artefacts. You can view remnants from local trades:- clockmakers, bakers, leather work, cobblers, carpentry, dairy, buttery, brewing, textiles,... We loved this museum! Read everything and learn't a lot of things about a lot of different aspects of local life. Well put together and some of the big museums could learn a thing or two about how to engage the visitor. Don't miss Bunner's shop opposite. We almost walked by and are so glad we went in!

Oh gosh – where to start? Well – a gem of a place. It suits Montgomery perfectly – slightly unusual or as my guidebook has it - ‘Montgomery is different’. There is a huge amount to see and learn about both of life many years ago and about the area in particular. The entrance fee is just £1. Astonishing! If... More

Such a lot of well presented information and exhibits in this delightful building. Worth more than the £1 entrance fee.Staff made us feel welcome and were helpful with guidance about walks and sights in the town and surrounding area.

Packed with local history, social, geological, railways, this is well a visit. This is in a tiny and charming but little rural town so not open all the year round. Museum helpers knowledgeable and helpful

This small award winning museum is a wonderful way to spend a wet afternoon in Montgomery. The collect contains lots of information about all of Montgomery's castles/forts and exhibitions about such varied topics as a railway crash, the local workhouse and 19th century medical care. The entry fee is only £1 too. Highly recommended.
