Was here at sunset and sunrise. Both views were great. At sunset, we saw the huge flock of swans. There are actually two areas where the swans are at. One is at Kotan Onsen, where we saw grannies and grandpas soaking in, with 5 whooper...More

This is weather dependent but the locals rarely speak highly of Kussharo (they prefer Mashu!) but there its great to drive around, go to the beach, try one of the communal onsens. It was more than I expected

Lake Mashu beats the rest of the Lakes. Kussharo has an area for people to picnic and laze by the lake side. Nothing much.

The water beneath the sands is hot springs Onsen water, and that is why the swans and ducks are buried in the sand to keep warm in the strong wind. There's a convenience store and bathroom right there. Souvenir shop sells cute Stuff.

Water is indeed not cold during winter. That's why the swan is enjoying the swimming still during the cold season. But sadly for me, it's nothing of a 'must go' because there isn't much to see. Had a good lunch at the souvenir shop. Maybe...More
