Naturally this is a must do as you will have a great view over the village surrounded by the mountains. There is also a gift shop and you can buy some snacks and have a matcha icecream. You can take a bus uphill from the...More

Get the Village map from the information counter when you reach the bus station. Walking uphill required to reach the desination about 20mins. Not recommended for those have leg problem

There is a shuttle bus every 20 minutes from the village, and we’d recommend the bus up, and walk down. The walk is fairly steep, on a sealed country road, but the road up is boring. Get it over with quickly! There are good toilets...More

Once at Shirakawago going to this observation level is a must. The walk is not hard and the views are terrific.

Good starting off place to visit before visiting the main village to gain perspective of this site. As it is about 40-50m above the village, the observatory gives you a rather good perspective of the place . Good for a 15 minute visit before proceeding...More

Stunning photo opportunities. You’ll never forget this view. Then head down into the village to wander around.

Definitely must do. You have not appreciated Shirakawa fully unless you go up there and look down. The observatory is not as far as it looks.

Our tour's bus dropped us at the observation deck overlooking Ogimachi village about 10:30 am. The area is relatively small, and I am glad that there were not too many tourists there at that time. While there was a gift shop with western toilets there,...More

This was my least favourite of the three villages we visited (Ainokura is the best by far in my view, followed by Suganuma), but you really do have to go up to this viewpoint as the landscape is pretty awesome. I only rate it average...More

First view of the village before you visit it. Can imagine how it was secluded for so long. It’s totally encompassed by mountains. Very authentic village

You're welcome. The map should give you a clue about what to take a look at. After the observation deck, you might want to walk along the side of the small river running through the centre of the village. I viewed it from... More

I don't think you can catch the shuttle after check-in and also it will be a bit dark after 4.30 pm for photo-shooting during the spring months. Nonetheless, it is absolutely safe and easy to walk uphill to the Observatory... More
