If you want to couple a ski trip with immersion into Japan culture, this is it. The ski slopes are varied enough for beginner to advanced skiers. You have both short and very long runs. Depending on where you stay, you may get ski in ski out, but in general, you will need to walk a short distance to a... More

This was the second time that I had stayed in this small, relatively unspoilt resort. The town itself is pretty, with the sound of rushing water everywhere. Ski-ing is adequate up to an intermediate level, and with pretty wooded slopes and fine views. Ski hire of all that you could need is inexpensive. The town offers a good range of... More

Cute town with great access to the ski slopes at a reasonable price, close to the snow monkey's and a variety of bars and restaurants in town and up on the edge of the slopes

Spent 5 days at Nazawa Onsen. Main activity was skiing but also enjoyed the onsens and the night life. Also had a great half day tour to the snow monkeys (not to be missed!). Very pretty town and easy to navigate once you have your bearings. Food options were good but as we were a group of 7, we sometimes... More

We did a ski trip to Nozawa mid-February. It is very easy walking around the town, and you can get a map that lists the local onsens and shrines etc. Once you get your bearings it's quite simple. You can base yourself off the traffic lights in the middle of town near the bus stop and work out from there... More

Nozawa Onsen is UNIQUE among major Japanese ski areas in that it has the qualities of a European ski village: a compact, culturally authentic, atmospheric central hub. Other major ski areas in Japan tend to be sprawls which involve riding a ski bus; or lack an atmospheric center; or are over-built by big-name global hotels. The village: While the ski... More

Returning to Nozawa Onsen for another week of skiing. The weather was a bit mixed this time around. Snowing and cold the first day, then a bit warmer wich meant icy on the lower runs but pleasant further up on the hills. On the last day a bit of rain over lunch and wet snow, but still some fun runs.... More

One of the places you can come across on a rest day from the slopes. Interesting place where the locals go to cook their veges using hot Onsen water. Tourist are not allowed inside the area but no big deal though as you can see from the outside what they do. Put it on your place to visit

The trees covered in snow and the scenery from the top of the mountain are worth more than a visit! The hot springs are small, basic, but I almost always got to enjoy the whole bath by myself, which was great. I also accidentally discovered the area where the locals use the hot waters to cook (Ogama, I think it... More
