There is just few people on the beach in a winter afternoon, sands are pearl white and water is clear blue, we walked around the whole beach and then sat on the rocks to enjoy the gentle sea bleeze, watching the sea, small fishes, birds, waves for more than an hour, it was so relaxing and peace. I wish we... More

It was really a very nice beach. I was there on 7 Jan 2017, glad that the weather is good with blue sky and sunny day. It is a must visit whenever you are in Wakayama!

We came to the Shirahama Beach after staying in the Seamore Hotel where our room had a panoramic view to the beach area. The beach was neat, clean and rubbish was not found anywhere, indicating the good management of Japan and the strict laws of throwing rubbish anywhere. This is much better to what is seen in Hong Kong. The... More

This place is quite quiet in October and we just noticed a few tourists around. It's a nice beach to visit and you can go for a nice walk with their fine sand and try out the small hot spring for the feet that is free. Nice place if you have time to take the bus or drive over for... More

We have spent 3 days there with our one year old daughter and my wife. The sand is completely white, the beach is clean, lots of small playgrounds next to the beach, the water is transparent with big fishes. Lots of public free footbath next to the beach or in the city, with volcanic hot water. A supermarket as well... More

So the story is that the original beach washed away during a storm or kaiju attack or something equally bad. Since Shirahama is a beach town you must have a beach, so they arranged for sand to be shipped in from Australia. Now, I can neither confirm or deny the veracity of this, but I love the story. Shirahama is... More

This crescent beach (town) about 2+ hours South of Osaka at the tip of the Wakayama Prefecture was a nice off-season getaway for us. We went on a Summer'y sunny Saturday in October and the beach was nearly empty - maybe 100 people in total. The water was warm and it was a lovely day for a swim. This beach... More

We came in mid Sept and the weather was very warm and humid so lovely to swim in the warm-ish water. Great that there were no crowds like in August!

We went mid September, and I guess that is the off season. The place is a ghost town, kind of creepy. But, the beach is mint! Super clean area. There are signs everywhere, and hourly announcements, telling you no smoking / pets / garbage / camping / fires.

Beautiful white sanded beach in Wakayama. The sand is said to have been brought in from Australia. The water is clear and nice and it's been nice for a swim in both late May and early September. Will go back if I have the chance!
