We were very impressed with this Gallery Museum. The art collection is cleverly displayed within a modern architectural structure of grand proportions which allows the viewer to enjoy the art in large open spaces. Everything about this museum has been carefully considered from your very first encounter with the ticket sales person to the professional manner of the staff inside... More

I was really confused before I came here about whether you had to pay to see the outdoor sculptures. You don't! For clarification, we didn't actually go into the museum and just spent an hour checking out the outdoor art so my review is for that only. There's lots of it! Take the public shuttle and then the free Bennesse... More

The building, grounds and installations were all breath-taking. Modern art at a very high quality. The house itself is worthy of a Bond villains lair

part of the Benesse Hotel and also designed by Ando, the building itself is part of the exhibition. it has a number of sight specific works and major works by Hockney, Twombly Rauschenberg, Richard Long and others. The restaurant where we had a delicious Japanese lunch and a wall of Warhol flower pictures overlooks a terrace vith a view between... More

Rooms are spacious and modern. Great water-front view. Shower and bath are modern and roomy. Dinner at the Bennese Park Hotel Terrace restaurant (French cuisine) gets 10 out of 10. Delicious high-end food. RESERVATIONS required. All four of us enjoyed and came back to dine the following evening (different menu available). Highly recommended.

This museum has an interesting and original architecture and displays several contemporary art installations. We toured the gallery with Yoko from the Museum hotel and the background provided extra interest. The outdoor terraces are a must see.

This museum has a moderately-sized collection of (very) modern art (installations). The outside spaces and the outside art is marvelous, and the views of the Inland Sea are spectacular. But the museum itself is much less interesting for us than the Chichu museum, which is 20 minutes away. The art, however, should be taken in context with the architecture of... More

First and foremost, I'll say I think the Benesse House Museum is a worthwhile trip. It is, however, a trip: several hours' train ride from Tokyo or Kyoto, plus a 20-minute ferry ride, plus a few minutes' bus ride from the island port. Once you're there, you'll no doubt need lodging: there are a few small, very modest guest houses... More

A lot more to see than the Chichu Museum, if you didn't feel your Chichu ticket was worth the money (though I guess the art is quite different). Some are quite interesting. Some of the glass doors are openable - didn't know until I asked how I can get out to see the art... I liked the cafe (the one... More
