I was travelling from Matsuyama to Yawatahama in order to get the ferry to Kyushu and I figured Uchiko looked like it had enough stuff to do to warrant a stop, otherwise the whole day would have been just travelling. This impressive large house and grounds is worth a visit if you are in the vicinity. the house layout is rather unique and the grounds are really big. the wax museum is very interesting, I learned a lot about the process.

A well curated old residence and wax factory. There are many buildings to see so keep to the route. Go up and see the rafters in the main house. The museum is very well done. Wax made from a seed.....

The Kamihaga residence represents this historical industry. Interesting displays. Uchiko was once a prosperous centre of wax and paper production.
