We drove the southern (left) road -- the D71 -- from east to west in July. It was not too crowded, though we did end up behind a tour bus in the second half, which slowed us down dramatically because the turns are really too...More

Yes there are very nice views....but we were really underwhelmed. To quote our teenage son “the mildly adequate canyon”... Some nice towns to visit along the way though....

We based ourselves in Aix en Provence, rented a car and drove around the area. After visiting the Lavender fields in Valensole and Moustiers Sainte Marie, we headed to Verdon Gorge. We came on July 2. It was a pretty hot day. If you are...More

The drives, the walks, the people, the views - it's all amazing over here. From the dazzling emerald of Lac St Croix, which feeds the equally dazzling Verdon River, that then winds its way through the Gorge and down the valley - this is a...More

We took a day trip to the canyon and were amazed at the sites, the many observation points and sights. The canyon is impressive and if you wish there is also a trek you can take.

You won't be able to do the whole stretch but certain pieces at the extremities. The middle part of the canyon can't be traversed with a boat, only by foot. Difficulty level is easy and 2 person kayaks-canoes are available... More

Your best bet from Marseille to Aix over the A51, up north and take exit 17 and from there to Riez > Les Salles sur Verdon. The lake and the Grand Canyone are the must see.
