Fun and interesting tour

Although the guide seemed, and acted, a bit unable to do this kind of work, the tour itself was quite good. If you go in the afternoon group (at 3pm) you can watch the realeasing... read more

The Alter Royal Stud Farm was established in 1748, under a policy initiated in 1708 by King John V. It was installed in Coutada do Arneiro, property of the House of the Dukes of Braganza, being the oldest and most remarkable Coudelaria Portuguese and the world, that it takes longer to run uninterruptedly. From Tuesday to Sunday, everyone can visit... More

This is an amazing mecca for horse lovers, with a long and proud story integral to the history of Portugal, but has lost it's State funding due to the financial crisis. Still WELL worth a visit!

This is the official harass for Alter Real, a variety of Lusitano horse. It was founded in 18 century, and includes also the technical school for stud related occupations. It can be an attraction not for a common tourist, but for those that have an interest on horses and horse riding.

We dropped by the National Stud Coudelaria before heading on South. Apparently people come here especially, but only two or three others had today. The guide eventually materialised after a long delay, and managed a small amount of English explanation (whilst also having her children in tow). There is little to see really, the horses are magnificent for those who... More

Amazing place, with lovely staff! Second time in Coudelaria and I hope to visit it again! If you have time, try to sleep in the house of Braganza's King...a unique experience!

Such a nice place, a historical landmark. For people who loves horses, nature and charming place. We booked our visit, and we did the visit with another couple. Our guide was Inês, who gave us all the information we ask. At the end of the visit I made my baptism horse riding, on a Purebred Lusitano horse.

Although the guide seemed, and acted, a bit unable to do this kind of work, the tour itself was quite good. If you go in the afternoon group (at 3pm) you can watch the realeasing of the mares into the wild along with the infants.

We visited in March and the only other visitors we saw were a family of Italians and a Portuguese couple. The tour was very enjoyable but rather amateurish with the very nice lady dashing off every now and then and talking on her mobile phone. We saw several tethered birds of prey but no falconry show before being shown around... More

We loved this place a lot though we didn't understand a word :) The whole experience started with a 15-20 minutes falcon show. Right after we started to explore the grounds. Several stables (3 or 4 if I remember right) where we had the chance to spend some time with the horses and making some nice pictures. We have visited... More
