On researching the area around NĂ©rac we were drawn to this establishment for several reasons not least it very good reviews, so urge the reader to make a reservation we had and were glad we did as it was full, a positive sign.

Everything was as you expect on entering the place, given it’s very good reputation, a good welcome and we were quickly shown to table three, the best for four people incidentally .

There were two very good waiters on duty, each job sharing the customers which went on to make sense in particular as only one could converse in English.

My salmon starter was salmon filled puff pastry and was a big serving, perhaps a little too big, none the less I finished it off. The steak was large to say the least , again possible too large but really was very good served with a filled potato, almost Dauphinois like for the want of a better description , very good it was to.

I went without desert.

One niggle. The warm bread came with lemon flavoured butter, really tasty, however after accepting an additional roll was advised the extra butter would be charged at two Euros. I declined.

Highly recommend .

Fabulous views of the river and the anglers and a great photo opportunity for the towers. Plenty of free parking available.

Short walking bridge on the edge of Barbaste.
Nice view of the 300 year old watermill.
The Restaurant behind the watermill is very good or there is a picnic area with tables next to the watermill.
Or there is a very good pizza place 100m away.

This is a place I already knew and found during the heritage days. The place is special, even unusual and that is why it deserves a detour.

Very pretty old bridge which dates from the Middle Ages and which offers a magnificent view of the fortress. It's just a shame that cars are allowed to cross it, because I think it doesn't help its preservation, it would be good if the town hall thought of a decree in this sense but hey, without much hope
