A nice short stop to see the ruins of a castle north of Karystos. The place was well kept and clean, and appears to have recently been overhauled with a conveniently paved access trail. We had the place to ourselves, which was a nice bonus.

We almost drove away as it looked like the entrance gate was locked. You just need to push the gate open! The view is fantastic but there is no info/ history regarding the castle itself. It's a bit of a let down as at night...More

The walls are still in reasonably good condition, and there is a good pedestrian path right into the castle. But there is not much promotion of the site - there are no interpretation boards or explanatory literature, and no café or visitor centre. More effort...More

After a steep climb along a path with easy steps, one reaches the former castle which offers nice views in most directions. Unfortunately no information on the castle's history is available. The development of the castle as a tourist site is obviously still under construction.

We have visited many castles and were very much looking forward to checking out the Kokkinokastro, the Red Castle. We were quite disappointed, as we drove for over three hours to get there. There is literally very little to see apart from some barely standing...More

Follow the signs to the village Myloi, standing above Karystos town. The castle is well visible from all sides near Karystos and actually dominates the gulf and the whole area. Historically, it is an important castle built right after the Frankish conquest of central Greece...More

The hike from Karystos to Castello Rosso in the foothills of Mount Ochi is well worth the effort buy you can also drive the 4km there. As well as being historically significant as a fortress, the views from there are fabulous. On foot, it can...More

This is a well-worth visiting fortress, with a splendid panoramic view over southern Evia. The walk up is reasonably steep, but the reward is worth it.

Beautiful castle, worth visiting! It was very windy but that only made it more fun. Definately recommend it!

The castle turns a beautiful red color at sunset. The best way to enjoy it would be to approach it around sunset time (8:30pm in July) and then walk up to enjoy views of the surrounding area. The colors are amazing at that time of...More
