I had an awesome visit in December with Kashgar Guide. Although the weather was cold at zero degrees centigrade, just a jacket and fleece is enough.

The lake is absolutely stunning on a sunny day. Unfortunately the day I visited was overcast and I couldn't see a reflection of the mountain on the surface of the lake. Before you go there, you had better check the weather forecast.

This beautiful lake was well worth the long and tedious journey from Kashgar. The first few hours of the road have a 40km per hour limit so it took us five hours to reach the lake where we spent an hour. Be aware that the...More

This was a long day trip up to Lake Karakul however the scenery was fantastic with snow on the high mountains. The lake itself is very clear and the surrounding mountains are reflected in it. There are camels and horses to ride but no toilet...More

This is a fabulous lake well worth seeing in spite of a somewhat arduous journey. The scenery along the way was beautiful and gave you a wonderful sense of the landscape.

This lake is a bit overrated. I would not travel 4.50 hours to see it. BUT..... on the way to the Karakul Lake, there is a lake called the White Sand Lake or “白沙湖”. This lake is brilliant. I have never seen such a lake....More

There were too many tourist activities going on, like horse riding, souvenirs, etc that I feel it looses the unique nature place as it should be. Also, with the number of tourist stopping there, the surrounding grass areas are worn out by the trampling of...More

A must seeing scenery on the way from Kashgar to Tashkorgan. No tickets. Just stall your car on your road side and have a short walk along the lakeside. It's the stunning view.

The lake is amazing went and it was almost completely empty and incredibly clear. The journey from Kashgar is a long one but its well worth it and the scenery along the route is great as well.

Karakul lake is a beautiful stop along the Karakul Highway especially with the Muztagh Ata mountains in the background. I will say that Bayingol/Bayinkul was, in my opinion, more beautiful and seemed less touristy. Still, certainly worth a stop if you are doing KKH.

Hello, the road has many qualities from "autobahn or highway" to road in construction, but it is not dangerous. It a´depends on the weather condition also. Driving up to Karakul ("Black Lake") is not difficult at all, but... More

I was there less than a month ago and indeed it was true. No limits on visiting the area, the lake, riding horses and a camel, buying souvenirs and getting a cup of tea in one of the yurts (a local round tent). It is very... More
