We stopped in at Oshino Hakkai on the way from Fujiyoshida to Lake Yamanaka. It is a really beautiful little village and you get a great view of Mt Fuji. The clear water ponds filled from the snow that melts off the slops surrounding Mount Fuji contain beautiful colour fish and plants. It is well worth visiting, we stopped in... More

I was lucky to visit on a clear day, so I had amazing views of Mt Fuji. The ponds were crystal clear which added to the serenity of the village. There are lots of little stalls selling a variety of Japanese snacks and foods.

Oshino is very famous for its beautiful water of Mt. Fuji. Also you can enjoy Japanese Soba noodles, or Tohu both needs good water. 忍野八海は富士山の湧き水で有名で、美味しい水を使った蕎麦や豆腐も食べられます。 透き通った水を覗くと、川魚の姿も。

We were lucky with a crystal clear day, blue skies but cold and crisp with snow capped Mt Fuji looming over this charming and photogenic village. There are lots of (quite expensive) shops catering for the bus loads of (mainly Chinese it seemed) tourists but the spiritual ponds and watercourses are so clear and clean, many fish very visible. If going... The water of the pond was really clear and I can clearly see the fishes swimming inside the pond. I wonder whether it's trouts or salmon inside the pond. There are souvenir shops scattered around the area and some really nice structure like the water mill.

Lots of shops catering for tourist. However the village is clean and good for photographs. On a clear day, we were told that Mount Fuji is visible but unfortunately not on the day we visited with a tour group. Good place to visit as part of the Mount Fuji tour.

We were supposed to go to the 5th station of Fuji-sama but bad weather prevented us from proceeding. Our tour guides thus diverted us to this UNESCO Heritage site instead. Beyond the souvenir shops, crystal clear water, crisp mountain air and mouth watering "village-street food"... what amazed me about this place was how friendly, polite and hospitable these people are.... More tourists than nature. If you are frequent traveller & been to Japan several times, you won't find this place interesting at all, at least not me. Wish I have skipped this place & spend the time for other area in Fuji Five Lake as lots to see & can't finish in a day!
