Yes, Altos del Maria is NOT a tourist attraction for the afternoon nor a national park. It is a 15 year old privately owned gated community consisting of 15,000 hectares, approximately 1,600 homes and approximately 125 full time residents. Many immigrants and Panamanians have homes and retreats here ranging from huge mansions to small casitas. You must be invited into... More

Altos del Maria, is mainly an expat and Panamanian (where they have their country homes) mountain community with 7000 Acres, located 20 minutes from Panamericana road, and Pacific beaches near Coronado golf and beaches. We stayed in two ocassions at Altos for a period of 3 months. It was a paradise for us. The view of the valley, and peak... More

This place shouldn't be listed on TripAdvisor. It's a private property without public access. In Google maps the streets seem to be public, but finally they weren't. We had to turn back and couldn't pass...

The development of Altos del Maria consists of 7000 + acres within a gated community with 24/7 security, Altos boasts beautiful mountain views, amidst a pristine natural setting and provides for year-round comfortable living for its residents. Many green areas have been maintained, and there are a variety of mountain trails which help maintain the look and feel of a... More

This is a gated community in the mountains above the Pan American Highway. Not sure why its listed on Trip Advisor! From some of the comments you would think this is a place to visit. There is no access to the area where the camping or the hiking trails are unless you want to go to the sales center and... More

ALtos deal Maria, is probably the most Beautiful Gated Community anywhere! From the river walk with many water falls to natural swimming holes. The many hiking trails, to the many beautiful gardens, truly a Paradise!

The views are gorgeous, good for hiking, but there are no entertainment options: parks, sports activities. Mostly residential properties.

Amazing place about 30 mins off the highway, about an hour 20 from Panama City. The tents are very high quality and the views are incredible. The grounds are very well kept and the staff are great. The only issue is the food. There is a restaurant about five minutes drive away and that's it. Bring snacks. Also the dinner... More

This is my target home when I retire. The weather is perfect year round. Plenty of fresh fruit, friendly people and beautiful views. I can't imagine a more hospitable place.

I saw some of the negative remarks. That is exactly why we bought here and love it. The casual visitor has to be approved for a visit by either an owner or a Representative of Grupo Melo. What is the purpose of having a gated community if you let unknowns in? There is a new road that Melo built that... More
