The Fynbos trail is a unique nature experience in the heart of the Cape floral Kingdom that can be undertaken as a fully guided and catered slack packing trail or as a self-guided and catered trail. The trail has a two or three night option and takes hikers along a beautiful stretch of trail through coastal and mountain fynbos, remote forests and visits some fascinating environmental and social projects along the way.

Did this hike with our guide Kristoff, who shared his vast knowledge of the features and behaviours of the magnificent Fynbos flora and fauna. The landscape and its "inhabitants" were beautiful, colorful and fascinating. The photo opportunities were incredible. The overnight stays with 2 family hosts were warm, welcoming and a great retreat after an inspiring day's hike.

This was an exceptionally well organised, manageable hike through some of the loveliest scenery in the world. We chose the slack packing option and it was fantastic. Good accommodation in beautiful, peaceful settings and excellent food (ending with a superb meal at Grootbos). Fynbos is unique and everywhere is covered in flowers, trees, plants that only grow in this area!... More

I booked the hike for 13 of my good friends and myself as a way to reconnect because we live all over the world and country. We did full catered and unguided. The catering was 5 Star! Fresh , local, well prepared and presented with exceptional touches such as flowers, homemade bread and ginger beer.... I am pleased that we... More

We took an unguided three day hike through Grootbos and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hiking was easy to moderate - definitely doable for anyone who enjoys hiking. We had plenty of time to stop and enjoy the pincushion protea and flocks of sugar birds. Our hosts at Fynbos Trail and Witkrans made the trip extremely easy and relaxing. Highly recommended!

Having driven past the Grootbos Reserve many times and noticed only undulating hills covered with green fynbos, it was a magical surprise to see things 'up close and personal'. The gentle hills hid ferocious ravines; the green fynbos hid towering Stinkwoods fighting able-bodied Milkwoods for a glimpse of the sun. And then there were the flowers, the birds and the... More

If you are into understanding the interdependencies and diversity of nature then this is a must. Yes you can walk the trail unaccompanied but we were fortunate to have Billy as our guide for three day. This guy really knows his stuff having spent much of his life in the area. And boy can he tell genuine stories of the... More

Wonderful hike through the local fauna and flora with our very own experts to explain everything as we went along. Absolutely fascinating stories of an unbelievable ecosystem where plants and animals co-exist and support each other. We were made to feel so welcome by our wonderful guides Sean and Billy who live and breathe the excitement of the Fynbos. Accommodation... More

We did the trail as a group of friends and had a wonderful time. The Coastal add on section is well worth doing - saw lots of whales and interesting caves. Our 2 guides over the 3 nights were great fun and informative as were all the Fynbos people we came into contact with. Pincushion proteas were flowering in abundance... More

We completed the Fynbos Trail this week and are still floating on air! It was a truly wonderful experience. Sean and Billy were both expert guides and they made the fynbos come alive for us hikers, with fascinating details on all the plants and their life cycle, pollination etc. We came away even more in awe of nature. The walking... More
