We drove around to see what is happing there but were not very impressed by the result. There is no information whatsoever, although this would be nice to find out how they get the salt from the water.

Spent two weeks in Skala Kalloni and visited the saltpans birdwatching very often during our two week trip. Great place to look around lots of different birds to see.

Where in the world can you see flamingoes feeding in the foreground and sheep grazing in the background? Nowhere that I know except at the Kalloni Salt Pans! Not to be missed!

This was simply incredible. For the most part, other birders were hugely helpful to one another in sharing information and offering views through scopes.

If you are a birder, you will know about this place. If you are not, the sight of the Flamingos is a sight that should not be missed.

I was really sorry I did not have binoculars or my camera to enlarge the beautiful view of flamingos and several other birds in the salt pans... But enjoyed anyway, really worth a short stop, or walk by the pans.

You don't have to be a bird watcher to appreciate the array of species to be seen here. The whole area is very special and well worth a detour from the main road. There are some hides and low key signage but the main stars...More

Take your binoculars and camera and wear sensible shoes - we managed to see pelicans, storks, flamingoes, egrets, cormorants & herons - quite a few different types of each. The place to go if you like birdwatching.
