Romantic place, especially in sunset

We stayed till late evening, saw beautiful sunset and many flying bats. And of course monkeys - we feed them fruits. Very romantic place but costs 1500 rupies for tourists.

If you like trees then you will love this place. As for flowers then you may be disappointed. It a good way to spend an hour sauntering around. Be warned hardly any benches so no where to rest. As formal gardens seem to be very few in Sri Lanka then make the most of this one. Tip. If you use... More

it was a nice, but really average botanical garden. The hall with orchides was poorly arranged, and we set the biggest hope on it! In the end, the palm alley and the big tree reminding baobab were the highlights for me. My friend however loved this experience a lot, she even named the visit to the garden as the top... More

Having just come from a rather unpleasant trip around the Temple of the Tooth, this was a welcome change! Yes the parks are popular but there is plenty of space so it doesn't feel crowded. We had a guide who could point out things to us and I recommend that local knowledge. We especially enjoyed the orchids and the avenue... More

A beautiful place, very clean and diverse. This is a must visit place if anybody is visiting Sri Lanka. Views are simply breathtaking and like a photographers dream come true.

The nice, large garden was full of people, young and old as they stroll, walk, run and took pictures of themselves and the garden. I stopped at the small café for some tea, although it was hot during that day, nothing stopped me from enjoying a cup of tea. The place is nothing short of a lovely place to see... More

We spent 1.5 hours here very easily one morning. Although quite a few people there, never felt crowded. Lots to see. Plaques let you know types of trees/shrubs etc, and who may have planted them (e.g. Tsar Nicolas 1 of Russia; King Edward VII etc!). Monkeys and fruit bats can be seen. Orchid house. Well worth the visit.

We took the bus from Kandy to Perdeniya (16 rupees each!! - that's less than 10p!!) in the morning. The journey was about 30-40 mins. We spent 3 hrs in the gardens between 09:30-12:30. They are extremely peaceful and serene! It cost us LKR1500 each to get in. There's loads of trees, plants and flowers to see. I'm not much... More

We did a guided tour with a really knowledgeable botanist who told the story for plants through the history of Sri Lanka and the commonwealth. I was really impressed with the gardens, they're world class.

1500LKR entry is 10 times more than it should be. Also at the various gardens, staff members will "helpfully" tell you the name of the plant (which is written right on it in 2-5 languages) then demand 500LKR for a tip. The trees are just beautiful, and it's lovely to stroll around (if you can avoid being hassled). The tuk... More
