We enjoyed our trip to Kamikochi and had a lovely walk around the paths alongside the river. However, do be aware that the classic views of the mountains are very weather dependent. Although it had been sunny in Takayama when we left to make the...More

We went on a day that turned out to be very grey and rained in the afternoon. We only walked around the area by the river - so no idea what the proper hikes are like. It was a beautiful area but in a way...More

Be warned your enjoyment here is extremely weather dependent, but if you're lucky you'll see monkeys along with many nice views of mountains, volcanoes and man made bridges. There are also many ponds etc, but we didn't spend much time at those locations. It was...More

We caught a bus from the Hirayu Onsen / bus terminal. The bus ride was pleasant and got to see some great scenery along the way, with an abundance of fresh water streams, waterfalls and tree covered mountain sides which had almost vertical slopes. As...More

For people into nature a must to do thing. The views are great. Many unique Japanese birds. Lots of wild snow monkeys around. Was happy we did this trip during our Japan holidays.

The scenery is kind of a small scale, if you have been to other countries like Germany, Australia, China - Kamikochi is just nothing... there are not many "tourist spots" in that area, so this place is kind of made-up as a must go place....More

We caught a bus from Matsumoto that left at 1015 and arrived at 1200. I would suggest a pair of good walking shoes and maybe a spray jacket just to be on the safe side. The walk through the park is not difficult but at...More

If you're going to visit on a day trip from Matsumoto, it's best to hire a car then drive to the parking area and catch a taxi. It's pricey (but not that pricey). That way you get to make the most of the view, hiking...More

Visited the place in autumn in late October 2016. Arrived early by bus from Tokyo - approx. at 3AM in the morning. We started trekking at 7AM to see how grandeur the God-made view was! It was utterly amazing. Going there in autumn might be...More

I went to Kamikochi, the crown jewel of the Japanese Alps. The scenic area is a basin at an elevation of 1500 metres. The Alps rise an additional 1500 metres from there, creating a stunningly gorgeous background. It is probably one of the most spectacular...More

Start from Taisho Pond, walk towards Kappabashi and then go to Myojin pond. Return path take the other side of the river and come to Kappabashi. Rest and take the return bus from the bus terminal. Time is enough.
