Valdres Folk Museum is one of the biggest and most beautiful open air museums in Norway. In the main building, you’ll find the information counter, a gift shop and exhibitions of folk costumes, folk art and the only exhibition of Norwegian langeleik in the country. SUMMER AT THE MUSEUM Guided tours in many languages, mini-concerts, exhibitions, film, folk art, historical activities, nature walk, animals on the farm, antiquarien houses, instrument workshop and museum café. Crafsmen, milkmaids, bakers and field workers all contribute to a great museum experience along with the animals that graze in the summer farm area. GUIDED TOURS During the summer season we offer guided tours of the old museum houses. This includes a mini concert with skilled folk musicians and dancers. During the winter we offer tours of the exhibitions. A guided tour last about an hour. Tours can be booked with guiding in Norwegian, English, German, Dutch and French. We always require confirmation of the booking.   LUNCH, DINNER OR A CUP OF COFFEE The highly experienced cooks and waiters at the museum café offer excellent service to both small and large groups. Please contact us for the menu and prices. The museum café is open all year. INSTRUMENT WORKSHOP At the Valdres Folk Museum we build and repair folk music instruments. This contrubutes to the continuation of old Norwegian handicraft traditions. Open Monday-Friday. «LANGLEIKEN – A NATIONAL INSTRUMENT IN NORWAY» In the center of this exhibition is a 400 year old instument called «langleik» from a private collection in Gjøvik. In addition, there are 37 other instument from both private and public collections. The aim of the exhibition is to present this unique instument; its history, different shapes and beautiful decorations. THE VALDRES MUSEUMS The Valdres Museums are leading in Norway in folk culture and non-materialistic cultural heritage. Their main focus is building preservation, folk music, instrument production and traditional folk costumes and textiles. At the Valdres Museums you can also learn about farming, summer mountainarming and traditional food culture. The Valdres Museums consist of three museums and one burial place. Thank you for visiting the Valdres Museum. Our new building was a bit cold from time to time the first two years, but now it's nice. Welcome back!
