The place where the great man spent his early years. Nicely renovated and preserved. A major landmark in the struggle against apartheid. Must for history lovers.

Nelson Mandela lived in this house with his first wife and son and with his second wife, Winnie Mandela. The house has been restored and has many exhibits to view. We had an excellent guide who explained things in the home. It is located in the Soweto area which was also interesting to see and learn about.

Was really good to see were he lived years n years go but was really touristy as the house was quite small with so many people in it but worth going and luved it. There was lots of locals outside waiting for tourist to sell stuff but not a bother. A must do in Johannesburg

We stopped here on our Red Bus Tour. To view this part of the tour there is an extra fee. That is fine, but then when you get to this stop they was more money to enter the house! First you need to traverse the street performers who are very persistent. I understand they are trying to make a living,... More

Nice museum, very well finished and pays tribute to a remarkable man and his family. You needn't allocate too much time to visit, as it's small. 30mins was sufficient to get through the house comfortably and gain an appreciation for all the exhibits.

Having read enough before our trip to appreciate the role of this home in Nelson Mandela's life (and Winnie Mandela's- she actually lived here much longer of course since he was in prison for so long), I really appreciated the opportunity to see the modest building and its setting in Soweto in person. However, it was very crowded when we... More

I have to admit I ended up crying when I read some of Mandela's sentences written on the walls. Really touching! I had visited South Africa when he became the president, so visiting this house after so many years and all he did was very special. The house is small and you can see some of the letters and prizes... More

We had a very knowledgeable guide who was able to bring the small house to life. If you just wander through without a guide you will not get a lot out of it.
