The world's first Unzoo project is located at Taranna, Tasmania, about one hour from Hobart and 10kms before Port Arthur. The Unzoo is an innovative and holistic wildlife experience dedicated to showing you the unique animals and plants of Tasmania while taking a lead role in preserving the critically endangered Tasmanian devil. Join our guided wildlife encounters and come face to face with our famous devils and endemic quolls, pademelons, rosellas, kangaroos, possums, frogmouths and birds of prey. More than two km of trails take you through the Tasmanian Native Botanic Garden from tall tree forest to the Norfolk Bay seaside. The principle of the Unzoo is to immerse you in our natural environment so, for instance, we have removed our boundary fences so the local wild animals can come and go as they please. Allow two hours for your visit or add an hour for a 4WD research and conservation adventure to see how we are managing the last safe wild Tasmanian devils on Earth. The Unzoo is open every day (except 25 Dec) from 9am. We schedule our wildlife encounters each half hour or so, that's 15 every day.

This Unzoo is amazing, the little Tasmanian Devils are cheeky little creatures that are always looking for your attention! There is a park section where you can go up to Kangaroos and Wallabies and actually pat them, they are very gentle creatures. Animal feeding's and bird shows are included in the cost and occurs several times a day for you... More

We were impressed with the passion of the people working in this small zoo. If people go with expectations of a big city style zoo, then you will be disappointed. For us to be able to see Tasmanian Devils up close is well worth the entry fee. This is something you don't get to see everyday. The bird show was... More

Family run operation who are particularly passionate about tasmanian devil conservation. This is critical to the species survival as the population here is free of devil facial tumour disease. An old farm site that has been rewilded. Recommend you see the devil feeding and bird show. Lots of animals to see and a beautiful spot to relax. A great local... More

This was not worth the $ to enter. It is a zoo not an Unzoo as advertised. The animals are still separated in their separate enclosures. There was only one open field which had two sad kangaroos. We did watch the feeding of the Tasmanian devil which was alone in the one enclosure you see in most pictures with the... More

A relaxing environment to unwind and observe some of Tasmania's amazing fauna. After an exciting morning cruising around Tasman Island, this provided a lovely change of pace and a chance to enjoy the Unzoo's quiet bush setting, feed the gentle wallabies, watch the insanely, quirky Tasmanian Devils loping around their domain and observe them at feeding time. A unique chance... More

Well, the Tassie Devil Unzoo is just a wonderful day out, so much to see and do, the grandchild was captivated with all the native animals, not just the devils. The staff and guides do a wonderful job, very creative and responsive to questions. It was a wintery day but still enjoyed every moment. The price is a bit expensive,... More

I asked a local about the Unzoo and to be quite honest she wasn't too excited about the place, but I still popped in to have a look. The timing couldn't have been better, we entered at the right time to go straight into the Devil feeding and the gentleman who was conducting the talk was full of knowledge and... More

Spend the morning at Unzoo and feed the friendly kangaroos. Watch the feeding of the Tasmania Devils, and learn about these carnivores. Then head over to the interactive bird show, one of its kind. The kids will love the experience. Make sure you get there early, as the feeding times are usually between 10.30- 12.00. It costs about $79 for... More
