Even if you don't go in the best moment (end of June-beginning of July, it depends) the Piana di Castelluccio worth a visit! . The atmosphere is enchanting.

A flowery picture but real!
Jul 2020
A wild garden with flowers growing spontenous and so numerous. The colours are amazing! The trick is to go there at the right time and yesterday was the right day. I would have stared at them for hours. It's like being scubadiving in the coral reef. You'd lose the notion of time and place if you could go there without all those cars and people with their smart phones and camera taking pictures like mad! I highly recommed going there at least once in a lifetime.

Lush yellow green meadow
Jun 2019
When we visited this place is early June and the only colors appear in meadow is green grass and yellow flower. It wasn't colorful as the picture shown in TA. Maybe July is better time to see the peak of blooming flowers with many colors. However, this plain is surrounded by mountains and hills and field of lentils. We only stop for brief since it doesn't live up our expectation. If come at the right time, this place is very beautiful.

Absolutely breathtaking!!!
Jul 2019
I was truly blown away by the beauty of this place. We came at the beginning of July, on Saturday, and it was extremely busy, but the magnificent nature with all the mountains and fields, just took my breath away! I couldn’t stop admiring it and taking photos. The lentil fields transform incredibly somewhere between May and July, when they beautifully bloom, creating a fantastic color mosaic. I know that this year a lot of people were, apparently, complaining about not so many flowers, but I really enjoyed the site. There is also the Italian-boot-shaped grove on one of the hills (made out of planted trees) and it’s very picturesque! So don’t miss it! Also, arrive in time to have lunch surrounded by all this spectacle of nature and then don’t forget to stop by in Norcia, which is only 28 km away! P.S. Wear comfortable walking shoes to get around.

Stunning

Absolutely gorgeous. When we went it just looked like a meadow with a few yellow flowers although all along the roadside there were masses of flowers of many colours. As you drove down you could see all the flowers more clearly. We went on a Monday and it was very quite. Superb.

A magnificent valley
Sep 2018 • Friends
It is almost impossible to describe this huge plateau, one thousand meters above the sea level and surrounded by the Sibillini mountains. Most of the peaks are over two thousand meters high and the highest one is Monte Vettore with 2.476 meters. The valley is a karstic basin, made of porous limestone with the underground reserves of water. It is a marvelous sight in any season, well-worth the thirty kilometers drive from Norcia, although the road is narrow and bumpy.

The plains are full of thistles. Also, don't forget to check out Piano Piccoló, it is a bit hidden. You can reach it from the mountain pass Norcia-Castellucio, arriving from Norcia, right when you reach the pass and glimpse the plains, you reach a crossroads, it is hard to miss, people are selling pasta, cheese, truffles and lentilles there, on the crossroads you don't continue straight into Castellucio, but turn right to a forrest. After cca 2km, the road ends with a huge camper parking area, leave your car there and follow a dirt road cca 500m up a slight hill. You will be greeted with a beautiful view of Pian Piccoló and Piano Grande with Castellucio.

Amazing surprise

"Piana di Castelluccio" is an amazing valley near Norcia city. in May and June you can see amazing colors of flowers which born. On that valley you can find the small village of Castelluccio. I think it's a fantastic place where you can go also with kids for have a walk and enjoy without stress. After earthquake of 2016, it's not possible come from Castelsantangelo sul Nera (that street it's only open on weekend). If you come from Rome you can go easily by car in 2,5h or by train until Spoleto and later by bus until Norcia.

I've travelled in many places in the world but what i have seen in this Valley is something that i've never seen before. I was lucky to be in the best time of the flowering of poppies and lentils. Once you are down in the Valley, close to the fields of the flowers you have a Red and purple sea in front of you. Just incredible. If you are in this area in july you can't miss it
