Stables owner Melissa provides gentle, handsome horses and a wealth of knowledge about plants, wildlife and history of the local desert. Our two-hour ride took us to an old miner's cabin, across rocky arroyos and to stunning vistas of the Rocky Mountains, lit up with blazing aspens at this time of year. Melissa identified rocks, trees, shrubs and plants, and... More

Went on a morning trail ride with my adult daughter. Melissa, the stable owner and tail guide, called early to say that heavy rain the previous night had caused very muddy conditions and rescheduled from 9 to 10:30. Glad she did as the trail clearly would have been slippery earlier in the day. It was just Melissa, my daughter and... More

I brought my 14 yr old grandson to the Taos NM area for a rite of passage adventure week. One thing he/we wanted to do was go riding in the mountains. Melissa (who owns Cieneguilla Stables) was a great guide for us. She is knowledgeable, loves her rescues and imparted that love to us for our sure-footed horses. During our... More

Our two teenagers went on an hour and a half trail ride with Melissa, and loved it! Her horses (and dogs) are rescues, gentle and well-mannered. It's very apparent how much Melissa loves her horses, and how well they are cared for. She answered all our questions, not only about the horses, but also about the area, land, even the... More

The owner, Melissa, is a "what you see is what you get" horse owner. She was able to accommodate me and my two daughters (16 and 9) with a day's notice. If you are looking for a touchy-feely, warm and fuzzy experience, this ain't it. If you want someone who tells it like it is; who has extensive knowledge about... More

We took a 2 hour ride with Melissa and had a wonderful time. I grew up with horses so I don't usually take trail rides but this exceeded my expectations. The horses are well trained, obviously loved and receive great care. I learned interesting facts about the history of the area too. I am already planning my next ride there!

My two grandsons (14 and 11) and I had a delightful time riding horses up into the mountains with Melissa, the owner of the stable. In addition to the ride, Melissa provides information about the geology, history, wildlife, and flora of the area. She also stops in scenic areas and poses the horses and riders for great pictures. We highly... More

Road with Cieneguilla Stables twice, great informative ride. But about those skinny horses listed a few reviews up. The proprietor of this business also rescues horses, usually under fed, skinny, with their ribs showing (New Mexico has a lot of horses in need of rescue.) If that reviewer went no further than to see the rescue horses at her place,... More

Melissa knows her stuff. Nicely kept horses. Melissa loves her animals and knows the surrounding countryside. A good guide.
