Our seven day visit to the Lower Omo Valley started and ended in Arba Minch. We decided to go with a guide after reading various opinions about the pros and cons of independent travel. We chose Ephrem Girmachew from Southern Ethiopia Tours based on positive reviews, his local connections and the vibe we got from his response to my emails.... More

My wife and I went to the Omo Valley in southern Ethiopia with Ephrem for our honeymoon to visit the various tribes and see the sites. My wife and I have each done a fair amount of travel on our own (before we met) and together. We rarely, if ever, hire a guide and prefer to just “wing it” and... More

I contacted Ephrem from Southerethiopiatours from the UK prior to going to Ethiopia. Between us we worked out a 3 night trip which enabled us to see exactly what we wanted in the time available. Ephrem spoke and wrote excellent English and he always replied promptly to emails. The price for the 3 nights was about 1500 USD for two... More

It is amazing to see the ancient tribes of Africa. A visit this month to the Omo Valley National Park was like seeing National Geographic first hand. We visited the Hamer, Dassanch, Mursi and Dorze Tribes. They still maintain their cultures and traditions. Ethiopia and this National Park is well worth the visit. Mamaru and Mike made it easy to... It is amazing to see the great ancient African tribes at South Omo Valley of Ethiopia. I have visited three times the area. Many experiences with locals. The wildlife at Mago and Omo National Parks. The big five mammals are found in the national parks. En route to this area one can pass many sites and get may experiences, touching... More

It is great to see that several tribes, including the Mursi, Hamar, Dassanech, etc have managed to maintain their culture and still live for most part as they have done for centuries. Unfortunately the constant stream of tourists is corrupting this lifestyle. First of all because the whole visit of such a tribe is centered around getting pictures for which... More

During July, I visited Ethiopia. Arriving with uncertainty, not knowing what to expect, I was delighted to meet Mamaru at the airport after months of communication and planning. Along with Mike, the gentle giant driver, we headed north straight away. The north was packed with astonishing Monastery's, incredible driving routes, historical churches and some of the nicest people I have... More

I am a solo female traveler who is a photographer and blogger. If you are considering going to Ethiopia, you need a guide. I originally booked with National Geographic but cancelled. It was the best decision I could have made. Outside tourists companies aren't dialed in as well as locals. As a matter of fact, they use locals. News of... More
