A Hot Spring Museum!
Jan 2020
Kudos to the team of visionaries to restore and renovate this former public bathhouse from when Taiwan was a Japanese colony. Spend an hour or two and you can glimpse into one facet of life that both the native Taiwanese and the Japanese enjoyed.

Interesting and free museum

This is a great museum to get some information about the Beito area - its history re: the hot springs.

It is free admission and you take off your shoes on entry and are provided with slippers to walk around in. It is staffed by volunteers who are lovely and very helpful.

The building is an old bath house constructed by the Japanese in the colonial era. You enter from street level onto the 2 nd floor which has a lovely balcony that overlooks Beito park and creek and also has a large room with a tatami mat. You can rest on the tatami mat.

Downstairs are the old baths. There is a large bath which the men used and smaller baths that the women used.

There are historical displays explaining the history of the house and geological explanations of the hot springs .

It is now used as a cultural centre for displays and concerts.

It is informative and a great place to have a rest and learn about the local area.

Just a short walk through the Beitou Park. Pretty building with informative displays outlining the rise and fall of Beitou as a resort town, and various historical facts about the operation of hot spring resorts during the era of Japanese rule. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Free admission too

Admission is free, and rather informative for those who are new to hot springs. There is a nice tatami area for relaxing. A good place to burn 30mins - 1 hour. If you are new to hot springs, it would be a good idea to take a look!

Lovely place

A lovely and interesting place that teaches the public about Beitou and it’s spring water history. It’s quite a short stay in the museum, you don’t need too long in there.

Back to the future

This houndre-year-old hot spring resort building was well restored and managed. Free for visitors, it offers a taste of what it was like to be a guest of a Hot Spring resort during the Japanese occupation era. Part of my highlight is to watch a 10 minutes documentary on the Resort town. I missed their free guided tour and suggest that visitors check for the time and join if you have a Chinese speaking translator. This location is part of many other local attractions walking distance from the MRT station.
