We took Bus 260 from Taipei Main Station North Entrance. The bus ends at Yangmingshan Bus Terminal. Then we took (loop) Bus 108 to Yangmingshan visitor center. The cherry blossom trees were beautiful. The park officers were friendly and helpful. We used EasyCard to pay for the buses. The park was nice and clean. There are many trails at the park. We also took bus s9 to Zhuzihu to see calla lilies. We didn’t have time to hike. Highly recommended for nature lovers.

Half an hour by bus or taxi from downtown Taipei will take you to this splendid park, which is open all year round. Yangmingshan was known as "Grass Mountain" when US forces were stationed in Taipei. The park is famous for its cherry trees, which bloom in early spring. Most of the park is in a natural state. Qixing Mountain, known in Chinese as Seven Star Mountain, is a dormant volcano. It is one of the tallest mountains in northern Taiwan. The view from the top is impressive.

Yangming Shan National Park is an area near Taipei, bordering on Beitou and New Taipei. While it could not be called a wilderness, it certainly has some wide open spaces. Among the attractions are Qixing Mountain, a dormant volcano which has a marvellous view of Taipei. It is the tallest dormant volcano in the Taipei area. The park also has evidence of volcanic activity, including hot springs.

We walked the Jinbaoli trail (aka- the historic fisherman's trail) in Yangmingshan Nat Park. From the car park beside the highway to the Jinbaoli Gate takes approx 2 hours. Mostly shaded area going up, you can enjoy the path where the fisherman used to transport fish from village - village. Some nice creeks and bridges along the way. The view from the top is nice and my suggestion would be leave some time cause the area on top is vast.

This is an amazing national park which is close to Taipei city. And very easy access by bus. There are many hot spring scenery to see inside the park. Make sure check the flower clock. There are also many restaurant inside which can enjoy nice night view of city. There are different things to see and do all around year. Also different flower to see at different month. Great place to enjoy the nature. Also, it’s cooler than the city. And great place to hiking, the tallest mountain of Taipei city is inside. It’s link little yellow stone park of Taiwan.

Lovely place! If you don't drive, there's a little country bus which takes you on a ring road around the mountain. Take a long hike if you have several hours. Can get a bit misty and rainy (that's Taiwan for you), so go prepared!

My friends and I made it here in time to catch the Sakura season over at the Yang Ming Shan Mountain areas! We hired a driver that drove us all the way from our hotel and brought us out for a full day tour over at the Yang Ming Shan National Park Area.
There were a few checkpoints that the driver have introduced us which were really great spots to take an OOTD photo and see the Sakura flowers!
We even managed to squeeze in some time to actually do a short trek around the area and I would highly recommend people to drop by.
Feb will be a good and cooling season to come!

From Taipei, take the S15 (small bus) for a 30-minute or so inexpensive bus ride to this wonderful mountainous place.
For a worthwhile half-day adventure, start at Qingtiangang Visitor Center, hike over a hanging bridge to Lenshuikeng Visitor Center, where you can get a meal or something to drink. Cross the road, turn right and walk 5 minutes to a Hot Spring where you can dip your feet or up to your thigh in nice warm water. From there, hike some more, past scenic Menghuan Pond, where you can hear birds, frogs, and other wildlife. Eventually, you will reach Mt. Qixing East Peak, then on to Mt. Qixing itself. Relax here with other climbers, before descending to Xiaoyoukeng Visitor Center. There you can take the 108 bus back to where you can grab the S15 back to Taipei.
This can be a strenous, relatively steep climb in parts, in particular if you are not in ready hiking shape. And the hike back down is steep and slippery in parts, so wear good hiking shoes and be careful. On cloudy days, you won't see much beyond the immediately visible (including some wlidlife), but on clear days you can see for miles, and it's spectacular.

I will be travelling alone in mid February and have a few qns
1. is it safe to go alone as a female
2. can i grab there and back to taipei city area or is public transport easier. If so, how?
3. Is it to locate the flower clock, hot springs and flower field?

Hi,
1. It is safe for female to go alone - I also went there alone : )
2. Public bus is cheap and convenient. It took you right to the park's bus stop. I took bus No. R5 (NT$30, 30 minutes) from Jiantan MRT station to Yangmingshan Bus Station. Then, you can hop on-off using the shuttle bus inside the park. On the way back, I ended my route at Grassland. From there, taking bus No. S5 is better. It will take you back to Jiantan MRT.
3. There is a map provided for tourists. Bus stop is quite easy to be located but remember to get off on time. Buses run only 1-way. If you miss the corect bus stop, it will waste time.
Hope it is helpful.
I would like to visit the Flower Clock on Yangmingshan during February and then go to a restaurant at Jhuzihhu for lunch.
I should be taking a taxi up right to the visitor centre/flower clock. And then walk to the Jhuzihu area to eat.
So my questions are
1) Is the flower clock area a good place to start/walk around?
2) Is it reccomended to walk from the flower clock to the Jhuzihhu area?
3) Is it easy to find my way to Jhuzihhu area?
4) Will there be cherry blossoms (assuming they bloom) during the walk from the flower clock to the Jhuzihhu area?
Thanks!

Is it worth it to visit Yangminshan National Park during the end of December?

Leederville34 contributions
It would depend on the weather on that day. If it rains too heavily, the walking trail becomes slippery. The advice is to bring rain gear as it often rains in the afternoon, and to take care on the slippery slopes. If there is a forecast of torrential rains or typhoon, it is recommended to keep off the mountains.

What kind of wildlife can you see in this park? And where are the hot springs located at from the entrance?

In the park you can watch out for the Elegant Five-lined skink (with a blue tail), Yellow mouthed Japalura, Indian Forest skink and butterflies. On the northern slope of Mt Qixing, frequently seen birds include the Crested Serpent-eagle, House Swift, Barn Swallow, Yellow bellied Prinia and Striated Swallow. Thankfully I did not encounter any snakes, especially when walking through thick bamboo groves. The hot springs are located close to the Lengshuikeng Bus Stop, with an outdoor foot dipping pool as well as a more private indoor facility for bathing naked. Both are free of charge. If you enjoy looking at nature, you might also like to hike around Maokong where I saw lots of butterflies and even miniature crabs, as well as interesting flora.

How to go to Yamingshan from Ximending? Is there a tour group we can join?
Zfy Ed
Singapore, Singapore8,055 contributions
Both places are not far to each other and if by taxi/car, it's less than 30mins from Ximenting.
Or you can take the subway to Jiantan Station, and take the red-5 bus to Yangmingshan stop.
I trust there are day tours there and you may like to check with your hotel for that as some hotels do have a tour desk or they can do the booking for you.
Enjoy!

Can the pick up and drop off point be different? Our hotel would be at Hotel East Taipei. But we were planning to go on this tour and then go to a resort it Beitou. Is that possible ?

Lilies might be, but hydrangeas are usually finished by the end of June.
