About
The climate of the four seasons in Hehuanshan National Forest Recreation Area is distinct, and each season has very diverse scenery. In spring, you will see trees growing in green abundance with new leaves. In summer, the cool weather and beautiful sea of flowers of the blooming alpine plants is very attractive. In autumn, splendid red leaves glow, while the winter brings pure, white snow. If you stay in Song-Syue Lodge, you can enjoy the gorgeous glow of the ocean of stars. Transport to this location is convenient so it is a great place to enjoy the mountain scenery of Taiwan.

This is the highest point of this mountain - quite a long slow drive up the endless winding mountain road. It was totally foggy, very windy & freezing when we were there. Already along the way up the narrow & winding mountain roads, we started seeing the fog engulfing the road as we approaches the place. Visibility was "0" - could only see both the headlights & blinking signal lights of oncoming cars. It is dangerous indeed driving in these extreme conditions. Surprisingly there were alot of people there, carpark was full. But definitely an indescribable wonderful experience worth coming for - the feeling is totally out of this world. Right at the top of the world ( mountain ) with howling winds, freezing cold , 0 visibility & total fogginess ( can't see anything on the horizon, beyond the park area). But we were told that not everyday is like this. We were lucky to experience this extreme weather today. Had similar experience at Mt Aso in Japan.

The toughest part was to get there with public transport (only on weekends is there a minibus service with limited seats starting from around 8 a.m. from Qinjing Farm Guesthouse of which the first bus is usually quickly fully booked). On Saturday afternoon I took the bus from Pulai to Qinjing Farm and got off at the last stop (Cuifeng), way beyond the farm. There were neither restaurants nor accommodation, just vegetable stalls and a campground for star gazers. I started to walk the road in the dark, not pleasant due to lack of space for people on foot, and not long before I would have reached the Hehuanshan Dark Sky Park at Yuanfeng Lookout, a car stopped, and a young couple offered me a lift to Kunyang parking area with WC, from where one can start the hike to Hehuan South Peak (3217m) and continue to Hehuan Main Peak, Wuling, Hehuan Jian, East Peak and Ximen Peak, all within 5-6 hours. I was content with climbing three peaks and returning with the first minibus to Qinjing Farm, Pulai and Taipei. I started hiking at first daylight around 5.30 a.m.

This is definitely worth the trip and if you like hiking, I would recommend spending at least two full days in the Hehuan area. You will be awarded with beautiful sunset and sunrise, good hiking. Go in the weekday, as it gets busy in the weekends (plus prices are higher). There are three buses a day from Cinjing to Hehuanshan, so it requires some planning, if you do not have a car.

Well worth the ride to view the summit . A bit of ride thou and the 3158 Cafe do provide a good cup of hot drinks. Just sitting there enjoying a Hot drink and doing nothing and 3158m above sea level is great .

Booked a sunrise tour via Changi recommends, the local tour agency is OKbus. Initially thought it will just be a sunrise tour as it's only 3 hours, but was surprised that the tour comes with star gazing, which was amazing! Superb views on the mountain can see all the stars so clearly! The guide introduced the different stars to us, and we are so lucky to see a shooting star!!! After that we go to another spot to wait for the sunrise. Though it was cold, but it was definitely worth the trip going!

The road to here is worth the experience alone but the views from the mountain top lookout are wonderful. There is a cafe here and restrooms. For the more adventurous there are trails to the peak. At this spot you sit above the tree line at over 3,100 metres.

We went all the way to Wuling, the highest automobile pass in Taiwan. Seeing that my friends and I are all young adults, our local guide took us hiking up the mountains! We were totally unprepared for this, but the views from the top is amazing... it was cooling and hot (UV rays are probably stronger too), so you might want to confirm this activity with your guide before you start your day.
