I think the place is extremely overrated and overcrowded. Personally I feel the night market at Ximending would be a much more pleasant experience as the streets are wider.

Don’t get off at Shilin station to get to this night market, the closest one is JianTan Station.
It’s gigantic market but it looked not as lively as expected, this may have been most of the food restaurants in the basement floor were closed when we got there around 5:30PM.
The foods in 寧夏夜市 were nice and locally attractive.

A must see if you're visiting Taipei, but if you're here for the food, other night markets probably have more authentic food. There aren't as many food vendors as I expected and most serve the same things so not that many choices when it comes to eating. Plus, way too many knickknack shops. Most food taste just ok, nothing special or specially good. We had fun strolling the alley and trying random snack foods but won't be coming back for seconds.

A brilliant night market in Taipei which is absolutely worth taking the metro to and exploring. There are plenty of food options, but we went for the famous fried chicken stall (Star something) and also the black pepper pork bun stall (also forget the name of this). Definitely have a walk around first and see what you fancy as there is loads of options. There are also lots of stalls with amusements for children which we thought was nice in keeping the local kids entertained. Highly recommend coming here for some cheap eats for tea.

If you do not like street food, then this place is not for you. I walked around and did not find anything interesting. Fengchia in Taichung and Ximen is better choice. In my humble opinion.

Taipei's best-known night market is one of the island's top tourist attractions. The Shilin Night Market sells all sorts of things, from trinkets to fashionable clothing at bargain prices.. Many people visit the night market just for the food, for which it is deservedly famous world-wide. The oyster omelets can scarcely be matched anywhere. The stinky tofu is delicious, one you get past the smell. You can also get a tasty steak. By the way, the clothing is made for local people, who tend to be smaller than Westerners. Be prepared to bargain. Entry is fee. By the way, best way to get there is by MRT, the Jiantan MRT Red Line station is across the road from the market.

My family and I had a good time here. It is family friendly place with lots of good food, shopping, games for kids. They do sell stinky tofu that’s something you will smell. Also, the food comes in small portions and are cheap. I think the purpose behind that is so you can try a lot of foods!

The Shihlin Night Market has been Taiwan's best night out for many years. It's a lot more civilised than it once was, but it's still a great place for Taiwanese street food. The egg and oyster omlettes are my favourites. There's lots of shopping, all sots of knick-knacks. There is all sorts of fashioable clothing, but it's definitely "try before you buy." Getting around the market is easier than it once was, but there's usually a crowd. By the way, the best way to get to the Night Market is to take the MRT Red Line and get off at Jiantan Station.

Shihlin Night Market is the largest and most interesting night market in Taipei. For many visitors, the main attraction is the food. These days, the food hall has many varieties of native Taiwanese food, which are interesting to taste. Apart from the pork sausages, my favourite is the oyster omelettes, which are fresh oysters with eggs. cooked on a hot plate. You can also get a good steak at a bargain price, served on a sizzle plate. By the way, take the MRT Red Line to Jiantan Station, you must find the Shihlin Night Market. The Night Market is well-organised these days, just take your time.

Shilin Night Market is the biggest and best tourist night market, but due to the COVID19, it has not been its old self, but who has?
It has all the best foods in Taiwan, and if you go with a local friend, you can avoid getting ripped off.
Also, if you speak Mandarin, you are sure to get more than you bargained for.
If you haven't been to Shilin Night Market, please do so, but please bring your own utensils to avoid using unenviromental disposal chopsticks and spoons, plus it is a lot safer nowadays.

Hello,
I will be having a 23-hour layover in Taipei landing at 8:55pm, and was wondering would that be enough time for me to travel there before the night market closes and back, in public transportation? Or is there another night market that's closer that would be faster/easier for me to get too?
Thank you!

The night markets are fun but not sure how long metro runs (midnight?) so maybe check into that before heading off to one.

Hi, I like to check if cash is still accepted in shilin market? Because I understand cashless payment via mobile has been quite a common sight in market these days. Thanks

I'm hoping to bring my elderly mom to Shilin night market. It'll be a treat for her but is the place wheel-chair friendly?

I wouldn't say no if your mom doesn't mind the crowd. We did navigate through with a baby stroller. I understand the wheelchair is wider but at least your mom wouldn't be crying like our baby on the stroller.
The crowd was kind enough to make space for our stroller to pass through.
You can skip very small alleys and go early during weekdays to avoid crowd.

Hello,
Can anyone tell me the average price of a men’s jacket at this market?
I am traveling and don’t want to overpack my suitcase with jackets and would rather buy it there.
Right after Taiwan I will be heading to japan so I need a good quality thick jacket.
Any recommendations?
What’s your experience with the quality of clothes and price?
Thank you Travelers
