Came here on a rainy morning - very good explanation of the history and timeline of the immigration of Han peoples to Taiwan, the establishment of the Republic of China, and how it intereacted with the ceding of Taiwan to Japan, and the coming of the Nationalist government to Taiwan to escape the Communist takeover.

Changing of the guard was worth witnessing. We turned up 10 mins before the hour (they change every hour, on the hour) on a Saturday and that was enough time to get a good spot.

I was fortunate to be in Taiwan during the annual Lantern Festival (2/5-2/19) and was quite excited to see all the displays at the Memorial.

The festival was distributed across multiple locations with the central display zone at the Memorial and Taipei City Hall with the remaining three at Xinyi District, Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, and East District.

The Memorial had the main Jade Hare revolving lantern with light and sound show but also two of the secondary lanterns. There also were themed lantern areas including Indonesia, Japan and the Chinese Zodiacs. I came in the early evening so got to enjoy the sites in the day and nighttime.

Crowds were smaller on the weekday and it was a lot of fun to see and explore.

The city of Taipei did a wonderful job transforming the memorial and the infrastructure to handle all the visitors.

Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall was ablaze with lanterns, of all sorts. It was a wonderful sight. Lantern Festival is the last day of Lunar New Year, families get out to celebrate the New Year. It's especially loved by kids, who often carry lanterns. People traditionally eat tang yuan, a sort of sweet dumpling.

I visited as they were setting up for the lantern festival and the number of lanterns on display was mind blowing. This area is used as an exhibition hall so check out what is going on.

Enriching experience. Decent museum, could have some videos or some engaging activities to attract different age groups.

The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is a useful place to know. It hosts a variety of activities, including art exhibitions. The auditorium often holds civic functions. The Hall honors Dr Sun Yat-sen, a physician regarded as the founder of modern China on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. The military honor guard changes every hour. There is an impressive statue of Dr Sun inside the Hall. The architecture is functional, but has classical Chinese elements.

We took the metro to the Sun Yat Sen station which is just outside the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall. He is widely recognised as the father of modern China and was a physician. Inside the hall you can learn more about his contributions and some history on the founding of modern China. We also watched the changing of the guards in front of his statue inside the hall. The building is designed in the Chinese architecturial style and the grounds outside is big and well kept, like the CKS memorial park.

Dr Sun Yat-sen (1866-1925) was a physician who became the first president of the Republic of China. He is acknowledged on both sides of the Taiwan Strait as being the father of modern China. in 1911, he instigated the Shinhai Rebellion, which over threw 5,000 years of dynastic rule in China. The Memorial Hall is both an auditorium, museum and activity centre. The Hall is instantly recognisable, it has its own MRT stop .
