About
Formosa Aboriginal Cultural Village has the largest outdoor museum in Taiwan dedicated to displaying the traditional homes and architecture of Taiwanese indigenous tribes. The nine villages are arrayed over an expansive section of hillside to give visitors a feel of what native Taiwanese villages looked like so many years ago. All buildings were reconstructed based on fieldwork research and blueprints drawn up by anthropologists in the 1930s and 40s.

This place is clean and the people are friendly. Food options were somewhat limited. Seemed like only about 2/3 of the place was even open. There were hardly any visitors on the day we went, which was a little awkward. The plus side was there were no lines for the rides. The aboriginal villages are interesting and we learned a lot about indigenous cultures in Taiwan.

At first, I thought the merging of a Cultural Village, and a theme park seemed to be a bit tacky... But these guys pull it off really well.

The gondola ride up the hill is really nice (short, but great views of the lake). There is also a gondola that goes over the park, which we took back to the main gondola afterwards, and it shows lovely views over the rolling hills/mountains.

Cultural villages were really well done with wax figures demonstrating the people of each tribe, and they have their own villages set up within the park. Also the people working there, are all of indigenous heritage. Some lovely staff working there in the stalls who are happy to talk about their heritage.

The theme park was a lot of fun too, went on the big tower (think it was call UFO or something), and the big roller coaster in the park which was intense.

Good day out and well worth the price of admission. We went as a family (grown up kids 30+ and our mother), so we took our time going through each village before heading to the adventure park.

There are two entrances to the park . One is from the cable car from sun moon lake , the other at the park entrance itself . On 2&3 January 20, the cable car was closed for maintenance .
We entered the park from the main park entrance . Entrance fee was about S$40 per pax . Near the entrance were the rides like Aladdin world with the Viking , space mountain ,Maya adventure with the twisting coaster , UFO , Spanish Coast with the water rides like water rafting and splash mountain . There was also an arcade area and play area where we spent almost an hour trying to fish for tiny rubber fishes with paper nets . 7 nets for 100NT . Once the net breaks , game is over. We won two pikachu soft toys!
Lunch was at the burger and chicken joint.
Then we took the skyline cable car ride within the park up to the other entrance where the aborigine shows , exhibits and games were situated . You can either walk down which we did (very easy walk about 30-45 min)or take the skyline back. We played archery , blow darts and had a good time watching an aborigine lady show us how to make glass beads. A lot of the restaurants were closed however so we smacked on sausages. Loved the fact that there were so many taps on the way for people to wash their hands .
All in all , a lovely 4 hour spent in the park . There was also a huge souvenir shop at the park entrance that we came in from .

We rode the lovely cable car up the hill planning to then walk up the mountain from the trail that starts by the gates of the park. However you are not allowed to access the trail from the cable car station unless you pay to enter the theme park!! We could have just walked through in 5 mins but were told to ride all the way back to town and get the bus back to the park to access the trailhead! This is what money and greed does to our ability to enjoy the countryside!! (Also wondering who profits from this cultural appropriation park, because the the ethnic group who are being ‘celebrated’ by this park are nearly wiped out and most live in poverty - is it ethical to use their culture to make yourselves rich?? I wonder....)

Never expect to see a 2 in 1 village. The view from the cable car top was amazing.

Kids enjoy theme park more than anything else. Consider that is a 2 in 1, the theme park is actually not very big. Apart from the thrill rides, most are suitable for younger kids.

This is quite a big theme park, view is great and been here twice, 1st for the company tour and 2nd just recently after a year... in both instances, several rides are closed under maintenance. I tried the 2 extreme rides and should I say a once in a lifetime experience, the UFO and suspended rollercoaster. The cable car ride from this place to Sun moon lake area is the highlight of the tour, as you pass through a good scenery view of the area and the lake.

I reached there at about 11.30am and still covered most of the attractions by 4.30pm. We took the cable car up to the top, changed to another cable car and then onward to sun moon lake at the otherside. Personally, the trip to sun moon lake could have been skipped as I find it boring. The journey in the cable car wasn't that enjoyable as it was hot inside and the view wasn't that great.

Went back to the top again at the theme park side and made my way down. Top half were exhibits about the 9 aborigines of Taiwan with some entertainments thrown in e.g like blow dart shooting, bow and arrow shooting, singand dance performance by an art group. Personally, I find this part of the trip interesting.

Bottom half of the theme park were the usual amusement rides. Note that quite a few has min height restriction e.g. 100cm, 120cm and 130cm. There was also a building that houses kids friendly rides.

Overall, fun place for kids although not as slick as Universal Studio, Disneyland etc.

Didn’t think there was a hidden gem in Taichung (Nantou) because Sun Moon Lake has always taken the spotlight! There was a gondola/cable car ride from Sun Moon Lake going to the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village and it’s a theme park like no other. Unfortunately we didn’t know that the theme park was that big so we were a bit late to arrive and didn’t get to explore the whole place. This is a great place to unwind and have fun especially with your family but I would recommend that you allot at least 2 days to explore the whole theme park. I think we only got to check out 10% of the place.
