This is the main starting point for boats on the lake. Our bus from and to Taichung will be stopping and starting from The Shuishe Visitor Centre nearby. Most of the activities, hotels, bike hire, boat rides and round the lake bus are concentrated around this area.

While this is the main area that most tourists stay, it mostly consist of hotels, restaurants and parking lots. Ita-Shao on the other hand has more local food, snacks stalls and souvenir shops.
Unlikely to need more than an hour to look through the shops in the Main Street.

It is one of the ferry piers in Sun Moon Lake. The pier is accessible by bus from Taichung HSR Station or Taichung TRA Station. Beautiful view of the lake from here. Sun Moon Lake is one of the main tourist attraction in Taiwan. You will find many foreign tourists here. Sun Moon Lake is a lake in Yuchi Township, Nantou County of Taiwan. It is the largest body of water in Taiwan. Sun Moon Lake surrounds a tiny island called Lalu. There are also local bus that goes around the lake with stops at major points along the perimeter of the lake.

If you arrive by bus, this wharf is the starting point of Sun Moon Lake tour. There is everything from restaurants to convenient stores. Of course, there are many ticket offices for round-lake boat. Every company sells the ticket at the same price (NT$ 300), and the conditions of use are the same.

We were here as part of our day tour to the Sun Moon Lake. Just having our lunch at a nearby restaurant, we came by here for a short walking tour (as we had decided not to take the cruise due to limited time because we needed to rush back to Taipei the same day and it was already 3pm).
The pier was currently under some repair and renovation works and so a large section of it was cordoned off and for those who wanted to take the cruise, needed to walk further up following the directions to the pier. But the view from here on the lake was lovely, very scenic and serene. If not of the sun, we would love to walk further and longer around. Walking up a little would be the observation point, from here, you could have a full and unblock view of the huge beautiful lake! (of course, you could rent a bike here and cycle around the lake and surrounding areas if you choose not to walk)
It was a sunny afternoon and since we didn't take the cruise to tour the lake, we decided to walk/roam around the "streets" here as there were several gift and souvenir shops, besides convenience stores, food stalls, cafes and restaurants. People here were friendly and warm and we ended buying quite a lot of souvenir items. :)
After spending some time here, our driver guide drove us around the lake to cover other key areas before heading back to Taipei!
Nice place to visit.

There is nothing much here, really. Just some rows of shops and we left after walking for about 15 minutes. There are high class hotels in this part of the Lake though.

A lot of car parks, a lot of agencies selling you charter tickets. This could be a good start to Xuan Zang Temple, and Yi Dao Shao Pier.
Not as many stalls of street food as that at Yi Dao Shao.

I alighted from a Green Line boat on a not very busy Tuesday afternoon.
The piers work well.
Taiwan is receiving fewer visitors from mainland China but travellers from other nations are starting to more than compensate. However fewer of the latter may visit Sun Moon Lake so that may partly explain how I found it less crowded.

Most people will end up here upon arriving on the bus. If you need to go to hotels scattered around the islands, you'll come here for the boats. Have your boat tickets ready and don't talk to the people touting their boat tickets along the docks
