Wheelchair access to The Shannon Pot, Cavan
May 2021
The Shannon Pot is located along the Cavan Way, close to Cavan Burren Park and Tullydermot Falls. This area consists of a small playground, picnic area and car park. As shown in attached photos, direct access is available for everyone, including wheelchair users. Following along a paved path to a barrier free bridge, leads to an uninterrupted view of the Shannon Pot.

Interesting visit
May 2021
Located close to Blacklion Co Cavan, there is a car park and then a 5 minute walk through a field with lots of sheep to visit the Shannon pot. It’s essentially a small pool of water with a small stream running from it. Interesting visit if in the area.

A large pool, said to be the rising place of the Shannon.
Jun 2020
A large pool, said to be the rising place of the Shannon. While the water obviously percolates throughout all the nearby hills and mountains, this is the place where the water first reaches the surface and stays there, and thus is the rising place of the largest river of Ireland.

Good to see the source

Nice to visit the source of the Shannon - Ireland's longest river. A playground for kids has been added to the facilities since my last visit.

A Great Place To Visit
Aug 2017 • Friends
I have always wanted to see the Shannon Pot, the source of the mighty River Shannon, Ireland's longest river. Actually, it isn't the source as recent studies indicate underground streams feed the Shannon Pot and the real source is the Pigeon Pots in Fermanagh,m a fact acknowledged here at the Shannon Pot on the display board in all fairness.
However, the thing I couldn't believe is how accessible the Shannon Pot is. I envisaged wading through boggy fields and brushing away brambles and undergrowth, getting lost in the wildness and struggling to find it. Not at all! There is a small car park with a little playground for kids and then a short path through a field around a copse of trees and right to the Shannon Pot. It is a bout a 2 minute walk. I don't know why I thought it would be a boggy or mountainous inaccessible place but it is anything but! There are display boards both by the Pot itself and back at the car park and the grassy verge has been landscaped to make it even more photogenic. It is such a peaceful place to stand listening to the gurgling and bubbling streams leave the pot on their first few feet of what will be hundreds of miles of a journey to the sea as part of the Shannon. It is only 16 metres square I thin and about 9 metres deep so it can all be taken in very easily. I absolutely loved it, such a wonderful place.

Nice to see the origin of the shannon
Jul 2017 • Couples
It's nice to see the origin ofthe shannon. There is also a nice playground with picnic tables. The shannon pot itself is small. Great to see if you are in the area.

This is a lovely place to visit - we were driving towards Blacklion and just turned for the Shannon Pot on a whim. It's really beautiful with plenty of parking and stunning views!

Better then kissing the Blarney Stone
Mar 2017 • Family
I have visit the pot several times and always take first time visitors here; it is cheaper ( no fee ) and more important then kissing some stone. The only reason I only gave it 4 stars is because the pot that normally bubbles was quiet. We were lucky to have great weather for a whole week, which caused the pot to be calm.
Great stop if in this beautiful area.

Nice place to visit
Dec 2016 • Friends
Nice place to visit for a short walk. Ample car parking available, short walk from the car park to the Shannon Pot along a well maintained path. The Shannon Pot is a small pool of water, it is nice to see but not a must see. The Cavan Way walking path seems to go past it. There is also a small playground there.

So cool
Sep 2016 • Friends
I've wanted to see the Shannon Pot for years so was thrilled with this place. It is well signposted, there is a good car park and the short path to the pot itself is paved. Lovely spot. Not a lot to see except a small pool so unless you are particularly interested in the source of the Shannon, it might not be worth the detour.
