We cross country ski'd out there from Luosto - approx 5km from town. Great little cafe at the entrance. Left the ski's there & went by ski cat to the mine (compulsory). Interesting talk about the mine & then you get to dig for a few yourself. Prepare to get dirty. Worth a visit.

We made a trip to the Amethyst Mine during our stay in Luosto. We travelled by snowmobile which gave us amazing scenery which was well worth the trip alone at that stage. When we got to the mine, we were brought into a cosy room and given information on the stones found in this part of the world which was... More

We took a snowmobile there with the kids in a sleigh. They loved it and came away with souvenier amethysts to take home ... one the size of his fist! A friendly and unique visit.

Great ride into national park. Great views of the lakes and forests. Not much at the mine. Good expedition and well worth the time

Nice place to learn more about Amethyst. The only thing to take note is, don't wear anything you are not prepared to get dirty or dusty. And when you mine, you have to squat and "dig holes" for ... 30 mins? wear something dirty and comfy.

So we were the first miners of the day. They take you through the history of the mine. Our guide Jouni Kurtti was the best. He was so informative and took us to spots that he knew where we wood find some. We found so many. The hike up can be challenging but the views are amazing. The price is so... More

This amethyst mine offers and experience that takes you back to the childhood! we got a tour through the history and geology of the amethyst rocks and after that we had a chance to go and dig our own treasures, which really made me feel like I was back at the childhood sand pits looking for my treasures! I highly... More

We were the first customers of the day because it was raining heavily. The guide was very good and friendly and we had a great time with her. The digging in the mine was very fun, too. We found beautiful amethyst and other beautiful minerals. We got about 20 min to dig and got to keep one of the minerals... More
