A stunning sight & so well worth the effort to get there. Sadly the weather was not ideal but the 2 trips we did, one by motor boat & one by kayak, were still amazing. If possible, take the kayak trip. You go one the...More

Gorgeous place. Don't miss it. The caves are best visited in the morning because of the light. There is a number of agencies which will facilitate the trip.

If you plan to go to Patagonia, it's very likely that you'll end up visiting Torres del Paine, Calafate or Tierra del Fuego - but if you end up going to Aysén region this is a must visit - Lago General Carrera is truly beautiful...More

The caverns are really amazing. You need to contract a tour, you can go in a boat or kayak. The lake is enormous, it is like a sea, so if you choose the kayak make sure you are able to row quiet a bit. Sometimes...More

We were told not to miss this program and I was overwhelmed at the beauty of the trip. It is a must if you visit the south of Chile. We had a beautiful day and the lake was quiet, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Only 4 stars from me following an afternoon boat trip. In the afternoon, the light comes from behind the cliffs so some of the effects are kind of diminished. Other people went in the morning, when the light shines from the water to the inside...More

We avoided the tour operators and instead went with a small family affair about 4km on the left as you drive further south of Puerto Rio Tranquillo. Small boats that could steer into the caves and get really close to the fascinating rock formations

We were short on time so decided to pay a little extra and hire a glass-bottomed motor-boat. We were 3 people. As the weather was quite cold and windy, we were pleased to be sheltered. The crew were very, very friendly and helpful - but...More

A good tour which you cannot miss when you are at Puerto Rio Tranquilo. The colour of the marble looks so good in several ways that you view it. Very nice. There are a lot of agencies at the river bank which offer the tour....More

Best to stay in the area because of the driving distance
How much does this cost per person? I have been before and normally go with the small family run business about 4km out of town, down a steep drive.

This is relatively cheap. Can't recall the price because it was cash. They are cheap because they are close to the place, so a short easy ride.

Hi Angaroo We are also driving from Balmaceda to the Catedral de Marmol. We would appreciate some idea of how much we should budget for in relation to fuel for the trip, whether you were happy with your car hire company and were they good value in relation to other companies. Did you do the ferry trip as well? If so, how reliable is the ferry and how do you book tickets? We would like to do the round trip but if it's too much hassle, we'll just return the way we came. We'll start from Balmaceda and go to Puyhuhuapi first, then back down to the Capillas, then returning to Balmaceda. Is there something else we should stop to see during this drive?

Hi Julianne, The road from Balmaceda to Puyuhuapi is under construction. Very bad ripio, the last part and closed parts of working days. So you go both ways! Take care and inform about roadclosures. There are enough gas... More
